Offseason banter begins. My 2¢ - Pat Haden blew it.

I can see some of what RT says but then again who should toss the first stone. Show me the perfect program, the one that walks the straight line and never varies. People change, hopefully for the better. No matter what was in Orgeon's past he was doing well in the present and filled a huge void when USC needed it most. Even the most hardened criminals get pardons once they have served their time lol. Look college football is a circus and the NCAA is nothing more than a ring master. Right now it is a 125 ring circus and still only one ring master. Some people say rules are made to be broken. Every body stretches the rules when it comes to college football. Michigan looked for all kind of ways to get rid of Rod and landed on his feet quite nicely thank you.

RT I agree with Conan in that I think you choked a chicken that was already dead. I am judging Orgeron on what he has done lately, nothing more, nothing less. I think higher ups run the show at USC and everywhere else. Asst coaches and HC's simply do what they have to do to keep their jobs and benefit their program. Reggie Bush, Cam Newton, controversies abound and always will concerning players who are diffference makers. I hope you guys can lay this aside and move on. You both are too well respected to go the wrong way down a one way street. LOL

yeah but you guys aren't getting clued into what the rest of the CFB world already knows...you CANNOT hire eddie o for a major HC job. but I'm not going to shed tears for him as he built the bed that he's lying in.

he's going to either be a great 2nd-tier program coach (whether AQ school or not....UAB sounds good to me) or 1st-tier coordinator and/or lead recruiter.

honestly not sure why conan took my comments personally...i don't like a piece of shit like Eddie O being categorized as a saint and a once-in-a-lifetime philanthropist, but that is neither here nor there.

honestly programs have given Ed O 3rd, 4th, 5th chances so you guys can judge him on 2 years of behavior but the rest of the NCAAF community and I will judge him on 25 years of being a scumbag which is why he's not been a HC in 7 years

conan...seriously, please do not internalize our chats. you write in a very "i'm 100% correct, everyone else be damned" mode so if you're called out on it don't take it to heart.

we're clearly on opposite sides when it comes to Haden. if he hired EO i'd have been writing the exact same phrase...."IMHO Haden really blew it"

we're all good, boys. if you guys want banter, we'll banter...if you want to post a highly opinionated yet not factually correct thread that can't be commented on, please preface at the bottom if you don't actually want anyone to counter your argument.

just chatting cfb....glad you're back conan! ... no need for PM's...unless you honestly think i am attacking you personally which couldn't be further from the truth

Poor Utah has to play Southern Cal, Arizona State, Oregon and Stanford in consecutive weeks. Better get some wins early because their schedule late in the season is brutal.

RT: You seem to be arguing facts against opinions. Opinions are what they are right or wrong. Orgeron was under consideration, at least publicly and for the sake of the players. Again, it is the higher ups who are to blame. I am very hesitant to label someone a scumbag and be judgmental. I guess if the rest of the world knows something we did not know so be it. At the very least Haden should have handled it better and assured Orgeron a job and a chance to regain some dignity, scumbag or not. It is all about the players not about what we banter about but any way you cut it your opinion is just that same as mine.

hey i wouldn't be offering up the big O as a solution to my alma mater's football program problems if i didn't respect his ability as a recruiter and a game coach, but i can separate that from the big O as a person. Simply put UAB has fallen so far that they can afford, and perhaps NEED, to take the chance on EO while a program like USC cannot.

i think we're of the same opinion that Haden could have handled this with more tact but in the end he made the only decision that he could (IMO of course). i think he knew from the first day Kiffy wasn't there that there was no way in hell EO was taking over the program and stringing him along as coach-in-waiting probably wasn't fair, but was an easy way to see out an already dead season while keeping current recruits in the funnel by an extraordinary recruiter

this will all work out for the best at USC

and yes, i prefer facts over opinions when we're labeling someone a "once in a lifetime" fella :)

Gotcha. Have you noticed how controlled Mike Stoops was this season on the sidelines. He was an outright looney on the sidelines at Arizona. He is an example of someone who makes for a great Asst but just not right for a HC job. I get your drift. Not to say that if Mike can learn to control himself on the sidelines he might change as a person. That is what I was referring to. I just think some can change for the better. But there again that is my opinion lol.
