Assuming Italy's defense doesn't melt down I think Cannavaro should win. He has been absolutely awesome the entire tournament, virtually flawless. The only "mistake" I recall him making was leaving Podolski open on that late header. However, I don't think he will win.

If France wins it will go to Zidane or Henry (Henry if he scores against Italy, ZZ otherwise) and if Italy wins Buffon will get it, especially with another shutout.

I can't believe Ballack is nominated, what a joke.

Zambrotta or Cannavaro, I can't make up my mind. When you factor in no Nesta since the knockout stage began these two have organized a backline that has not been scored on. Buffon has benefited greatly from their play.

However if French manage to win Zizou is a banker.
I must have been sleeping in front of TV cause I don't have a clue why Ballack was nominated. It is also strange seeing Maniche here, Portugal has few better players (right defender Miguel)

why the hell is Ballack in this list? Podolski's done much more shit for Germany than Ballack, who's been nearly invisible the whole tourney.

Ballack is like the decent chick at summer camp where all the other chicks are ugly. Because she is better looking than the other ugly chicks, she becomes "hot", when in reality she is only ok and wouldn't be noticed in the general populace. Ballack, IMO, is one of the most overrated players in the world.

Germany's general talent level is down from its norm and the everyone expects the best German player to be amongst the world's best. Unfortunately, in this case he isn't. He is the glamour boy of a glamour soccer power and therefore gets elevated to a level he simply doesn't belong. He is a fine MF and a well rounded player, but is he any better than Pirlo? Viera? Essien? Emerson?

I don't think so and I also think Chelsea wasted a shitload of money on him when they already have Essien, who is essentially the same player, younger and probably better.
