gutter,

consider joining the US Air Force as a comm officer. should be easy to get in as long you don't have criminal record. Go in as 2nd lt, do 4 years, maybe make cpt., then get out and dam near any defense contractor will hire ya..i know this might not be the popular suggestion on this forum cuz mostly bunch of ***** libs here..but what the hell..best of luck to ya

I think East Carolina is your major problem. No offense but I knew a girl who went there and she was damn near retarded.

Gutter seriously that is a good idea by Oscar: "Be all you can Be" (in the wild blue yonder). Under no circumstances join the Army or the Marines. The Air Force is a country club compared to any other branch of the service including the Navy. Try to get into personnel, easy, safe, clean office work. As a 2nd louie you might get to be OIC (officer in charge) of a small department with 2 or 3 enlisted troops working for you. Cinch duty and guaranteed civvy work after the 4 year hitch (if you don't screw up). Oh yeah stay out of any kind military police outfit and food service also for that matter.

Not exactly sure where you're located, but maybe move to an area with some business. Around here, Philly, there's TONS of companies whom are always hiring customer service types. Just get in the door. Most of the people hired are morons and as long as you have even half a brain it's not too difficult to move up to a decent position pretty quickly.

Good advice Wil. slopping limbs on a stretcher or grits on a plate; neither is very appealing.

But, hey, freedom isn't free -- even though we're not defending our freedom, but still.

Gutter Rats

Do you have a cover letter that you are sending out with this resume?? If you don't, it's definatly hurting your chances of getting an interview.

Gutter Rats... Honestly, Dude, think long-term. Set up your own sports bookmaking operation and forget about getting a job...
Who the hell wants a job anyway??? :WTF: And, as a perk, if you get busted you get three hots and a cot for your entire stint... no worries, Dude...

Does'nt that sound more appealing...?

Just trying to help the man along...

Yes a tailored cover sheet stressing your particular fit/strengths is good. Also you might want a few versions of the resume to tailor to the audience, although without professional experience that can be a little tough. Just file away that thought for job number two.

JJ has a good point here. One of my regrets is that I spent all of my time on the side freelancing in the same field that I work now. For one, it can burn you out ... but man listen to me -- nothing is worse that trying to work and have the old lady ***** at you at the same time. I'll all about the multitasking thing, but chicks can drive you nuts.

By taking advantage of your time now and learning a nice side skill (bartending, personal training, ski instructing, etc ... ) that you can do on the side for extra cash if you need it .. and more importantly a change of scenery from the everyday 9-5 gig.

Gutter,
Went to Monster.com...451 jobs posted in the Greenville, NC area. Probably 1,000's more over the state on Monster. One thing I have learned is that you have to pay your dues in most career's/industries. You may be low man now, but with 5-10 years in you will probably be where you imagined yourself if you stick with it. Short-term, find just about anything...long term, try to get on with a company you could see working for 20+yrs and work your way up. $$$/SALARY IS NOT EVERYTHING!!!...YOUR NEED TO FIND A JOB/COMPANY YOU ENJOY MORE THAN JUST WHO PAYS THE MOST $$$(LONG TERM) Does ECU not have a job placement office that bring recruiter's to campus to help set up interviews??? Good luck.

Working at an upscale type bar/restaurant you might meet some people and can network which in turn can turn into job possibilities

If all else fails, do what I did in college: deliver pizzas. Go to the richest neighborhoods in your area and look for who delivers pizzas there. Great gig, most places are dying to find drivers so you can rack up many hours. Best part is the hours are generally right after the business day ends and maybe an hour or two around lunch time. It shouldn't affect your job search at all. Money is as good as working in a restaurant as long as you pick the right neighborhoods, but the work is far easier. Even better you get paid mileage which pretty much should cover the cost of keeping your car. When I did it in two of the nicer areas of Seattle I met lots of cool people and even got invited to parties thrown by none other than Shawn Kemp, when he was MVP caliber!

how about this during the interview process when the employer asks you what is weakness you have or what would your past employer say is 1 of your weaknesses??
