Yeah, Charlie is married to a white woman. Remember all the "No one will hire Charlie Strong because he has a white wife" articles/stories? That was the excuse he (and many others used) for why he wasn't offered a head coaching job.

The College Football Playoff semi-finals are staying on New Year's Eve despite last season's television
ratings, the schedule is getting a tweak. The December 31 semifinals will start an hour earlier than
they did last season, and the Orange Bowl will be played in prime time on Friday, December 30, instead
of during the day on the 31st. Television ratings were down about 35 percent for the two games compared
to the season before, when both were played January 1. The other three marquee bowls that are part
of the playoff rotation (Cotton, Rose, Sugar) will be played January 2.

Stubborn and stupid. Unless it's "your" team, nobody's watching!

UNC plays 7 teams in 2016 that will have 1st year head coaches. I'll be curious to see what their over/under win total is.

Barry Alvarez says Wisconsin would like to practice at Lambeau Field this spring, according to ESPN. The Packers are on board, and UW is seeking approval. Spring ball begins on March 12. The Badgers open against LSU in Lambeau next season.

A few years ago, Ohio State held its spring game at the Cincinnati Bengals stadium. Bret Bielema recently said he brought up the idea of practicing over the spring break weekend when he became UW head coach, but*Alvarez shot it down.

UAB fans got to see the Blazers in action for the first time since the 2014 season, during an open practice this weekend.

UAB plans to hold some open scrimmages in the fall, as the Blazers won’t play real games until 2017.

"In the fall, we'll have more guys here and hold some scrimmages to showcase the team and give fans a chance to enjoy our progress with us," Bill Clark said. "At that point, we'll be ready to have some pretty serious scrimmages and give our fans a taste of the excitement they'll have in 2017."

Ohio State football has created a job solely dedicated to social media and digital content for recruiting, dubbed "director of new and creative media." The person will oversee a nine-person creative team.

“We don’t just add positions at Ohio State to add them. There has to be a business reason,” executive associate AD Martin Jarmond told Columbus Business First. Jarmond added, “It’s extremely important. Our kids now live on their phone. That’s the reality.”

The "Quality Control" coaches and "analysts" have become very interesting to follow.

Here's an interesting hire:

Maryland: Lehigh Senior High School (FL) athletic director Dan Pallante has joined the Maryland staff as assistant director of football operations, according to the News-Press. Pallante was D.J. Durkin’s high school coach and had been at Lehigh since September.

Virginia players won’t have any jersey numbers in spring. In fact, they won’t have them until some time in fall camp. Bronco Mendenhall says players will choose their number at that point, and the order wil be determined through work.

“If you start from the beginning of the offseason program and you take the body of work from the offseason program through spring practice, through the summer and through fall camp, that will then determine the order in which a player can choose his number,” he told The Daily Progress.

“So the team will vote on who gets first pick, and he can choose any number he’d like. It’ll work sequentially down.”

In the meantime, Mendenhall will identify his players by their names on the helmets.

Interesting approach by Coach Mendenhall.

Sounds kind of silly, but certain numbers mean a lot to most players.

I remember when I got to college I ask for a certain number and was told it was taken
so they gave me another number I never really liked. Silly to most but not to 18-19 year
old kids.

Mendenhall needs to bring some pride and toughness to Virginia. Especially some physical
play.

This is a classic Urban Meyer ploy. When he got to Florida, Ohio State, and Utah he kicked the players out of the locker room and wouldn't let them wear anything w a team logo until they "earned it".

Coach, what about this big JUCO RB I'm hearing so much about.

6-2 247 pounds and can run?

Some say he is the Gators next "Big, Productive, RB".

CL, he looks good. He's at 242lbs and was the top JUCO RB last year. I think he'll start, but the two Jordan's will play a lot.

Big concern is he puts the ball on the ground a lot. Has had problems all spring and fumbled
either once or twice in the spring game. No doubt he has size and talent, but Mac won't play
him if he can't hold onto the ball.

Clemson

Head FB coach Dabo Swinney has reached an agreement on a six-year contract
extension that links him to the school through 2021. The new deal includes a base
salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season, which will rise to $5.6 million by 2021,
and also features several performance incentives.

Good move by Clemson. Dabo has done a really nice job as head football coach.

USC has hired Lynn Swann as its new athletic director. Notice a trend here. Swann
replaces Pat Haden (ex Trojan QB) who replaced Mike Garrett (ex Trojan RB). USC
has had only one AD (Mike McGee) with any experience as an AD before getting hired.
Swann continues that tradition. Experienced administrator who has "proven" to be
and effective athletic director be damned.

Yeah the USC admin decisions are questionable at best

If Iowa St made only alumni decisions I could justify it but it's difficult for USC

I read where Swann was one of more than 200 candidates considered for the position.
USC selected a former football star with Zero experience in collegiate athletic administration
to run their high-profile department. Must have been a sorry bunch of candidates among
the 200 applicants.

Motorcycle Boy gets a raise. Yep, Louisville's Bobby Petrino receives a new 7-year
deal worth $30.626 million, averaging $4.35 million per year. Petrino is 17-9 in two
seasons since returning to the Cards. He was 34-17 during his four "Motorcycle Boy"
years at Arkansas.
