Mr Smith,
There is a big difference. All year long the Yankess held a large lead, much of the year it was a double digit lead over the Red Sox. I dont recall one post by Yankees fans rubbing in their large lead. I also dont recall one person who was talking about " not if, but when the red sox win the division" when the Sox were 14 games behind. Then the Sox hit a hot streak and the Yankess hit a cold streak at the same time. This was bound to happen. At that point every Sox fan in the world starts acting like they have actually done something big. So what ? All that meant was that the Red Sox were going to lose the division by a few games less, but anyone who actually thought the Sox were going to win this division must have been living in la la land.
Then on friday night, they luck out and win a game by means of a Yankee error, and it is like they had won the world series. I mean they were still 2 1/2 games out and still a huge underdog to win division and we get comments like, "not if, but when the red sox win", "yankees are frauds", "sox WILL sweep in Boston", "will sox sweep in NY ?", " Yankees ONLY hope, ONLY hope is to get a win tommorow".
You have to admit that the BoSox fans went WAY overboard just because their 15 game deficit was cut to 5. What could the yankee fans have said on friday night anyway ? That the Yankees were still the leaders - That the Yankees were still -400 favs to win division, That the Yankees had an easier rem. schedule. That the Yankees were still going to take the division. ? It wasnt like the red sox had taken the lead or anything, so if the yankee fans had commented they would have still been commenting with the upper hand so I dont really understand the comment about yankee fans not commenting.
by the way, I hate the yankees and the red sox and hope they both lose in 1st round. But really the same thing would have happened to cubs fans if they would have declared themselves division winners when they cut the Cards lead from 15 games to 10 games earlier this month.
