No big difference who wins the division ( unless you bet who gets WC). Both teams in, barring a miracle. let the play-offs decide this, fair possibility of the two meeting for pennant

I have the Yanks over 98.5 wins and Red Sox under 97 wins. Guess who I'm rooting for in today's game

the bet of the year may be yanks and over mussina vs pedro. yanks to win 5-4 over is 8.5 pay is 33.10-10. sox are heading back to 500 after that big 3 week run. go evil empire. I grew up six blocks from yankee stadium there is only 1 team.

I'm a Red Sox fan but didn't really expect them to win it anyway this year. At least they made it interesting as they fade off into the sunset. Boston was really lucky to win the first game of the series against the Yankees. The Red Sox are so psyched out against the Yankees in Sept. it doesn't matter who they put on the field.
Hats off to the Yankees....AGAIN!

I think that Red Sox manager made a mistake by not saving Schilling for first game of NY series instead of pitching him in closing game against TB If Red Sox had won 2 of 3, this would be quite a race. I guess that's what the Red Sox have been saying for about the last 100 year......IF IF IF It's not over yet as Schilling will be pitching in next 3 game series and they are 51-23 at home !

6 posts an hour after they get lucky in inning 9 and win game #1. No posts since they lose the rest of the series. I am almost glad they won game #1 now, that way the Bosox fans can hold onto hope for a little while longer. If it was 6 1/2, their hope would be completly gone.

Some Red Sox fans are already talking about how the wild card is really better anyway. LMAO - YEAH RIGHT.

Now its the Dodgers who are choking. They have 6 left with SF and the lead could be down to 1 1/2 games if SF holds on today.

Kermit-
I don't think it would have mattered if Schilling started game 1 or not. Red Sox still would have lost the other two games. They just have it in their head that no matter what they do in Sept. they will not beat the Yankees. Until the Red Sox players get over their psychological problems with the Yankees they will never swing the bats and pitch the way they do against other teams. Still like the way Boston played the last couple of months. No team with a better winning percentage the past month than Boston. We just can't beat one team in all of baseball, but then again who can? At least we are not alone when it comes to faltering down the stretch eh Cubbie fans? We may have to call on the Shrink here at the RX for some help getting the Red Sox players therapy in the post season. Something has to break that fricken Bambino curse! Maybe they should wear Patriot uniforms.

As a big Red Sox fan, I must admit I am stuned by thier performance this weekend. they showed absolutely no heart or desire to compete except in top of 9th friday which Boston probably would have lost in X inn. if lofton didnt make an error.

This knocks some wind out of the sails, but at least I am not over excited with high expectations anymore. I dont know how you old timers have wethered the storm for so long.

I do know we are probably in as a wild card and hopefully the sox will catch fire again, becuase right now they look like crap.

What you have to remember is this game is essentially meaningless to Boston. Why - because Anaheim also lost, just another day closer to the playoffs for the Sox - 9-1 or 1-0 it's just a loss, no different than the Yanks losing 22-0 a while back. Personally I hope the Yanks draw the Twins in the divisonal round.

With 14 games to play Sox magic number is 8 to win Wild Card:

Boston (8) 89 59 .601 -
Anaheim 84 65 .564 5½

It seems kinda dumb to me these posts asking where I am when the red sox lose, made by people who are not here when the red sox win.

you people are really trying to criticise me for doing exactly what you have done, posted after a win, said nothing after a loss?

pretty dumb

mr.smith I read your posts after friday when you were fired up and I was going to say something but I didnt. why? I don't know something just stopped me. It's that time around these parts bro. its starting to get cold it's dark earlier and it's just about time for playoff baseball. The atmosphere is a little more intense and I am not as rowdy as I was in august becuase now it will soon be do or die time.

I read your stuff mr.smith, and as a fellow red sox fan I like the enthusiasm. And if you feel like posting after a win or loss by all means do it. but its getting to be that time if you catch my drift.

i mean last year i was at a bar and the whole place was jumping up and down and then "it" happened and the mood changed and you could see the disparity and anguish in everyones face as people slowly filed out after finishing the drink they were on and it hurt and im sure yankee fans will see this and giggle but im not getting that wound up anymore. im just not.

Another great day in Yankee land. I watched both Friday and Sunday at the stadium and it was great to see the pitching staff and batters come back strong.

1) Moose looked great on Sunday. If the Yanks can have El Duque and Moose sharp as knives and Lieber and Vazquez as a bit more than servicable they may be ok. Browine is still having the pipe dream that he'll be able to come back from his stupidity.

2) The Sox fans were loud and proud both nights at the stadium. They are always there during this series but they were very loud this weekend particularly on Sunday early on. Murph and Sully sitting in front of me on Friday had a bit too much to drink. I respect their enthusiasm generally.

3) I do not respect the fans in front me getting fired up on Friday when the Yanks lost in a fashion that happens 3x a year and talking about winning the AL East and then similar guys on Sunday saying that the series was meaningless since the Sox will be the wildcard.

Nice showing for the Yanks. We'll see what happens with the pitching. Getting 2 quality starts in a row out of Moose is GREAT to see. Seeing Lieber step up in that spot on Saturday was a big lift for this team. The Sox had a chance to put the Yanks on their heels this weekend and BLEW IT. A confident Yankee team that won 2/3 after losing the first AND touching up Pedro in the rubber match is not what the Sox want.

See ya in October.
