I've always wondered why the juice is more for one side of a spread:

EXP: WIS + 1 -115 MIN -1 -105

Now, I realize the line does not necessarily represent a projection of the outcome, but, can be/is utilized to even out wagering for the books.

That said, is the differing juice used for the same purpose? Otherwise, I just don't see the inference. Certainly not if you think the line is set "dead on", in terms of leveling the game.

Interested in hearing explanations.

thanks,

BTW: using the example of the above: it may appear to a layman who thinks he knows about line setting (bit contradictory, I know) that WIS pick is a "better" bet because it will cost him/her more to lock it in.

Again, what would be the explanation otherwise?

more money is coming in on one side so they make it slightly cheaper to bet the other side to balance the betting

thanks, thought as much. So, to a layman, the publics betting heavier to one side which could STILL perhaps incline them to side with the 115 as they may assume it's the "better" bet.

Interesting.
