I don't see how it could devastate them. It would take some very creative thinking to figure out how to retaliate in a non-military matter against a country still living in the Stone Age. How do you attack an economy that is about as sophisticated and deversified as a New Guinea cannibal tribe? It should be fun drawing up that list of options...

Maybe the US should beef up their military presence in SoKorea tenfold. This would please the MilIndComplex without actually starting a war. Don't think citizens would object either.

Something tells me that this response wasn't to cripple or play "footsies". I think our response was to be in a proportional response to what was done here. It wasn't to "devastate" or hurt the people of North Korea. Probably kind of a warning or shot across the bow.

You could go back the Bush days of Iraq when the U.S. knocked out all communication before they attacked. One can only imagine over 20 years later what they have developed in case of a serious military action. The best part is powers like China and Russia get to see a small sample of U.S. technology. Not a bad thing at all for them to witness this.
