Been seeing a lot of 'Major Non-NATO Ally designation' recently, so had a wee dig aboot.

It looks like we're entering a new cold war period and the battle lines are in the middle east this time.

MNNA status countries

Bahrain March 2004
Morocco June 2004
Pakistan March 2004
Kuwait April 2004
Phillipines May 2003
Thailand May 2003

Jordan 1996
Egypt 1987
Australia
Israel
Japan
New Zealand
South Korea
Argentina

The granting of MNNA status confers military and Foreign aid handouts.

The designation means a country will join an elite group of nations, which are granted significant benefits in the area of foreign aid and defence cooperation.

Major non-NATO allies of the United States are eligible for priority delivery of defence material and the purchase, for instance, of depleted uranium anti-tank rounds.

They can stockpile US military hardware, participate in defense research and development programmes, and benefit from a US government loan guarantee programme, which backs up loans issued by private banks to finance arms exports.

The designation helps countries to buy weapons and other security-related equipment from US companies and help train defence personnel in the US.

------------------------------

So we can say that the US is consolidating itself very seriously in the middle east, as a follow up operation after the end of the cold war.

There will be lotsa subsidies and loadsa weapons pouring into these areas.
