Imagine if you can a world where Zion Williamson plays in the national championship game in basketball at the beginning of April, then on a dare plays in a doubleheader for the Duke baseball team, and then gets picked in the NBA draft at the end of the month. Would any professional sports agent in this world allow his client to play a pair of college baseball games between the basketball title game and the draft? Oh hell no.
But that’s exactly what happened back in 1979 with Larry Bird and the Indiana State basketball team? On a dare, the 6’9 All American was challenged to play in a pair of baseball games for the Sycamore baseball team. And he did. Here is my Twitter entry from that, with a link to an article about it…

#OnThisDay in College Baseball: 1979@NBA legend Larry Bird played in DH for @IndStBaseball, going 1-2 w/ 2RBI & 9 putouts at 1B as the Sycamores swept KY Wesleyan. Keep in mind Bird played these games between the NCAA title game & NBA draft.
