A man walks through a pile of civilians killed by rocket attacks, which were laid outside the U.S. embassy in the Liberian capital Monrovia on Monday, July 21, 2003, in protest at the lack of U.S. intervention in the war-torn West-African nation.

When our troops get there and the fighting doesn't improve, can we say "I told you so" just like the anti-US contigent is trying to say right now? Its not about oil being there, its about the fact that putting thousands of soldiers in between warring factions is about as worthless an idea as their is. If it truly could lead to peace then do it, but this intervention holds zero chance of working. ZERO! Simple reason is that you have multiple parties that have no interest in peace (much like some in Israel/Palestine). They would have no purpose if they weren't fighting. That is what happens when there are no jobs and different ethnicities blaming each other for that. Most of the soldiers in Liberia are kids and young adults that never made a cent in their life if it wasn't given to them by these armies. Someone is going to tell me that sending the US Army to stand in the middle of them is going to accomplish something? Come on, that is ridiculous! This has less chance of having long-term peace than Iraq because at least that country has had a semblance of an economy and resources to drive it. What does Liberia have? Sadly I don't think there is an answer for countries like this, to go in and be peacekeepers just delays the inevitable. Once the peacekeepers are gone then violence will return.
