I saw something last week on local news , they said 1 school had seen about 40% of the students start bringing lunch from home instead of eating the school food and the school was throwing away lots of food and struggling to figure out how much to order.

This is a complete joke. I can see healthier food choices, but no mustard or ketchup? Mayo is pure fat, so I can see that being eliminated. Fucking do-gooder's!

That's not the case, I promise.

I'm just surprised that he needs to gain weight though.

Ever heard of a 6'2 240lbs linebacker? Geez, 6'2 205 isn't that big for someone who is physically fit. If he was training for a marathon, sure. He probably should lose some weight. Hell, there are 6'2 300 pounders in the NFL.

agree.

mustard is not unhealthy at all. In fact it's good for you

Mayo is pure fat and ketchup is pure sugar so eliminating those doesn't bother me. Especially since they are both disgusting.

By those charts, every starting nfl quarterback is overweight.

if you go by the doc charts everyone IS overweight and the people who are slightly overweight are considered obese. Its ridiculous the ranges they have

What's not the case? Two guys can be the same height and weight but look totally different?

I was saying that at 205 I doubt your son looks malnourished. I don't think that a person can be that height and weight and look as though they need to gain weight. I can only compare that to me who is 5lbs heavier and although I do t have any lines showing in my abs, I am very fit and my Dr still said I should try to drop 10.

I was just making a point about 205 at 6'2 isn't anything where (IMHO), somebody "needs to gain weight"

I'm starting to regret even replying in this thread.....

He is 16 years old. I don't think you are growing in height. He is.

He's not malnourished but is playing football and a pretty good high school football team. At 205, he's too small.

I don't see what the big deal is. Nothing wrong with pushing a healthier agenda for our kids. It's not like parents don't have a choice.

The problem is not all kids in school are fat kids. So, you are pushing an agenda because a certain percentage of the population can't keep food out of their mouths. You are pushing an agenda on everyone when not everyone has an issue. It's like the soda issue in NYC. It's ludicrous.

But you still have a choice. No one is forcing these kids to school meals.

And the fat kids have the choice not to eat unhealthy food in the cafeteria. Life is about choices.

They have healthy and greasy foods in the cafeteria that appeal to everyone.

If he really needs ketchup bring some. He has that choice. If that isn't allowed then you would have a point. The school doesn't need to provide a disgusting condiment for the kids.

The less processed foods in your diet, the better, imo. That being said, this entire obesity epidemic began when the government started getting its nose into nutrition. It's very hard to prove what truly is optimal, yet serious agendas have been pushed on iffy science. The moment that started, we got fat. It's a shame that policy has created a scenario where you can buy a bag of worked-over, processed corn cheaper than you can an apple.
