Racist to point out the continual decline of the NHL with an all white audience that is going to continue to age and die off? Didn't know you were that PC. NHL would kill for the NBA demos. MLB would as well. NBA finals have beaten world series the past 4 seasons.

I could careless but that rating is very poor given NYR/LA Kings but I think that is because NHL people just care about their team. I know tons of people here who are all about the Bruins but once they are out they just don't care.

Widely popular should get you better than a 1.6. A 1.6 is what two obscure teams get. This is NY VS LA, Stanley Cup finals, two biggest markets in the country, and your telling me a rating that barely beats a modern family rerun is acceptable?

They may be the two biggest markets, but Chicago, Detroit, Pitt, Phil, Boston would pull better numbers in the finals than LA. It is also a sport where the fanbases love their team but don't follow the other teams as close. I don't really care what the masses do. I don't need ESPN to validate my sports viewing habits. If that were the case, we should watch the sports they are pushing - like the SEC.

And thats fine. just dont pretend that the NHL is even close to NBA in terms of popularity. At least you can concede that the NHL is a niche league with a limited fan base. A 1.7 might be the best they can get, and thats fine, for a niche league, not a serious sports league though.

PS Chicago/LA game 7 was the most watched hockey game of all time. It got 22.0 rating in Chicago.

This. I got no problems with white people. I have issues with a specific breed of white male, the conservative white male, but that is a separate debate and not part of this. Race is not why I attack the NHL. I attack the NHL because of apologists like I referenced a few posts ago that actually believe a 1.7 rating means your sport is widely popular and part of the "big 4". there is no big 4, it's the big 3, and the nhl is down with MLS and Arena League football.

The NBA pregame show will likely double that final 1.7 number from nhl game 1 finals.

Same here, I watch all the playoff games now that they're all on TV. But we're in the minority. Most Hockey fans aren't fair weather fans, they only want to see their team. In the NBA they want to see the stars, people care less about heir team, and more about the stars which is good for TV.
