BEREA, Ohio -- Tim Couch will start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns this Sunday at Pittsburgh, replacing the injured Kelly Holcomb for the second straight week.
Holcomb, who passed for 429 yards -- the third most in NFL postseason history -- in a playoff loss to the Steelers last January, suffered a broken right leg and sprained left ankle two weeks ago at San Francisco and is not yet ready to play.
Holcomb was the Browns' No. 3 quarterback in last Sunday's loss to Cincinnati, backing up Couch and Nate Hybl, who was signed from the practice squad before the game.
Browns coach Butch Davis said Wednesday that Holcomb has improved and may be available as the No. 2 quarterback in Pittsburgh.
Atlanta: Coach Dan Reeves suspended starting cornerback Tyrone Williams for one game for what Reeves called "conduct detrimental to the team." The action followed an apparent blowup between Williams and assistant coaches. The Falcons (1-3) host the undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Buffalo: Running back Travis Henry practiced for the first time since the starter tore rib cartilage in a game on Sept. 21. Henry, who sat out last weekend's 23-13 loss to Philadelphia, is listed as questionable for this Sunday's game, when the Bills (2-2) host Cincinnati (1-3).
Denver: Clinton Portis was back at practice, but the Broncos won't know if their starting running back can play this week until they see if he can handle being hit in a workout today.
Minnesota: Daunte Culpepper didn't practice and will likely sit out another game to give his back more time to heal. Culpepper was "a little bit sore," coach Mike Tice said. If he can't go through a full practice today, the Vikings will start Gus Frerotte in Atlanta on Sunday.
N.Y. Jets: Coach Herman Edwards said receiver Santana Moss would replace Curtis Conway in the starting lineup when the winless Jets next play Oct. 12 at home against Buffalo.
