FRIDAY'S GAMES 8/13/04

Philadelphia Eagles - QB Rotation: Donovan McNabb (1st Q), Jeff Blake (2nd Q), Andy Hall (3-4th Qs).

Backup quarterback Koy Detmer will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and miss two weeks. Rookie QB Andy Hall will get more work in the preseason, since Demter will miss the first two games.

Offensive line a bit thin: T Jon Runyan left practice with a concussion Sunday and did not return, and OL Jamaal Jackson (knee), C Alonzo Ephraim (hamstring), and OL Jermane Mayberry (hamstring) are not 100%.

Defense banged up: Jevon Kearse had a minor ankle injury Tuesday. Safety Brian Dawkins, who injured his knee last week, will go through the entire camp without a full practice. Defensive end Jerome McDougle (shoulder) has not had one practice. And defensive tackle Darwin Walker (hamstring) did not make it through a full practice.

New England Patriots - QB Rotation: Tom Brady (one series), Rohan Davey (will follow and play into the 3rd Q), Kliff Kingsbury (4th Q), Jim Miller.

Bill Belichick said Rohan Davey will see most of snaps Friday against Philadelphia, then Kliff Kingsbury. However, if Davey doesn't prove himself in the exhibitions, Belichick will take a close look at veteran Jim Miller, who has yet to practice.

Offensive line thin as starters Matt Light (appendectomy) and Tom Ashworth (undisclosed injury) have yet to see the field.

K.C. Chiefs - QB Rotation: Trent Green (1st Q), Todd Collins (2nd-3rd Qs), Kirk Farmer, Casey Clausen. QB Damon Huard hyper extended his right (throwing) elbow Tuesday. It's not believed to be serious, but he might miss up to a week and is unlikely to play Friday.

Vermeil said the first team offense would play about one quarter while the defense may work into the second quarter against the Giants.

KC has a new defensive coordinator in Gunther Cunningham.

Gunther Cunningham's goal coming into the joint practices has been to evaluate individual talent rather than install the full breadth of his defenses. "I probably ran two defenses all weekend," Cunningham said. "We're here to see players."

Second-year RB Larry Johnson has impressed the coaches in practive. "Last year, I was frustrated about my role," Johnson said. "I didn't even know why I was here. This year, I'm just playing ball. I'm not thinking about what I'm supposed to do, what hole to hit, I'm just hitting it. Last year, I didn't know if I could play at this level. This year, I know I can."

WRs thin: Dick Vermeil said he didn't expect Johnnie Morton, Eddie Kennison or Marc Boerigter to be available for the Giants game. Dante Hall is not expected to return punts.

New York Giants - QB Rotation: Kurt Warner (1+ Q), rookie Eli Manning (2 + 3 Q), Jesse Palmer will take over likely around the middle of the the 3rd Q and finish.

The Giants have a new head coach in Tom Coughlin. Coughlin plans to keep some of his starters on the field when Manning takes over.

Defense thin with CB Will Allen (foot), DE Lorenzo Bromell (knee), S Jason Doering (sprained knee), LB Carlos Emmons (leg) and DT William Joseph (pectoral muscle) banged up.

Tuesday there were 15 players - an astonishing 17% of the roster - unable to participate in the Giants' morning practice. That included six players - TE Jeremy Shockey (foot), CB Will Allen, LB Carlos Emmons, LB Barrett Green (concussion), G Chris Snee (dehydration) and G Rich Seubert (leg) - who could be in the starting lineup if healthy. Tom Coughlin said the rash of injuries is "very troubling to me."

NY Jets - QB Rotation: Chad Pennington (1Q), Brooks Bollinger (2-3 Q+), Ricky Ray (will mop up), Chris Finlen is not expected to play.

Jets coach Herman Edwards continues to stand by second-year quarterback Brooks Bollinger, who has played poorly in training camp. Edwards likes Bollinger's ability to make plays with his feet and wants him to be the No. 2 behind Chad Pennington. But Bollinger's spotty performance this summer has the Jets concerned. His performance in Friday's preseason game in New Orleans will go a long way in determining his fate.

The Jets have a new defensive coordinator in Donnie Henderson.

The Jets have a new quick-count offense. It's a major change for the offense and figures to catch opponents off guard. Usually, the Jets go through a succession of movements and motion before snapping the ball, getting the defense time to set and make adjustments. The move is part of coach Herman Edwards' edict to up-tempo the offense. The Jets have also talked about running some hurry-up, two-minute-drill offense during the course of the game.

RB Curtis Martin is expected to start.

New Orleans Saints - QB Rotation: Todd Bouman (1 Q), J.T. O'Sullivan (2-3 Qs), rookie Ryan Sorahan (4 Q).

QBs hurting: Todd Bouman (abdominal strain) and Aaron Brooks (quadriceps) are not 100%.

Coach Jim Haslett said the starters would play only one quarter before yielding to reserves. The regulars' playing time will be extended for the final three exhibition games. QB Aaron Brooks will not play (strained quadriceps). Backup Todd Bouman will start.

Wide receivers thin with Nathan Black (groin), Derrick Lewis (hamstring) and Germane Crowell was waived.

Offensive Coordinator Mike McCarthy is expected to employ more one-back sets than a year ago.

This is good info, but it is lifted word-for-word from the Jim Feist site so a little credit should be given to the original supplier of this info...unless Feist also stole it from somewhere else...or maybe Feist and LV Handicapping are related.
