Washington Redskins +450 (also taking Washington +10 in two separate wagers)
The bottom line is that the Redskins fall under one of my favorite football theory's which is "defensive underdog". Despite a myriad of problems, the Redskins' defense has allowed 17-or-LESS points SIX different times, which is why TAKING the generous points is definitely the way to go. Joe Gibbs became a Hall Of Fame Coach in his first go-round with Washington because he built stellar DEFENSIVE teams, while operating a run-oriented offense that helped keep that defense off the field and thus avoiding fatigue. Gibbs has tryed to employ a "smash mouth" offense in his grand return by making that mamouth offseason trade with Denver. The bottom line is that Washington is UNDEFEATED (3-0) so far when Clinton Portis has rushed for at least 100 yards!!! Despite the stellar SU/ATS record of Philadelphia, the Eagles are horrible when trying to defend the RUN as they are ranked way down at #23 in the league in that category. That means odds are good that Portis will surpass the 100-yard barrier this afternoon which is why I am taking a stab at the MONEY LINE as well. The formula for beating the Eagles is attacking their undersized defensive line and wearing them down with the run. The Eagles have been so concerned about their porous run defense that DT's Corey Simon and Darwin Walker are losing time to Sam Rayburn. LB Nate Wayne has been a soft spot as well. Man for man, the Redskins defense is one of the few that stacks up against the Eagles high flying offense. Despite all the talk about Donvan McNabb and Terrell Owens, the key player for Philly is RB Brian Westbrook whose VERSATILITY creates matchup problems. I am not fully convinced that Westbrook is 100% healthy going into this contest. Of course, Philadelphia's Monday Night romp has inflated today's pricetag. The rage around the league has been to SWITCH quarterbacks when the going gets tough. One of the teams switching QB's is Washington who will go with Patrick Ramsey. But the key will be Portis running against that soft Eagles rush defense. Here is a dazzling 27-10 System from the database that dates all the way back to 1983: you go AGAINST teams like Philadelphia with a great offense (23-27 ppg) versus a horrible offense(14-or-less ppg), after a game where at least 50 TOTAL POINTS were scored. Bingo!
