Buffalo Bills +5½ (+220 on the Money Line)
Buffalo finally broke through with an elusive outright last week versus equally dreadful Miami. However, remember that the Bills could have easily won 3 additional games that they ended up losing right at the wire by a combined EIGHT points. It is ironic that Buffalo got their first SU victory of the season on the same day that running back Willis McGahee got to finally make his first NFL start. From a mere CONFIDENCE standpoint, it was critical that McGahee do well in the opportunity that was given him due to the injury to Travis Henry. The bottom line is that McGahee came through, rushing for more than 100 yards and producing a grand total of 142 total yards of offense. Henry is slated to return to his starting role this afternoon in the backfield, after sitting out a week with a knee injury. However, head coach Mike Mularkey has been working all week on "special personell grouping" that will make much more use of McGahee, now that he has flashed some of his brilliance of the past following that dreadful knee injury at Miami/Florida. It is imperative for Buffalo to have an effective RUSHING attack because asking QB Drew Bledsoe to move the ball against the mighty Ravens defense in long pass situations could spell disaster. Even Bledsoe came alive last week passing for 141 total yards in the second half alone, answering the call of the team OWNER who the previous week had calling the offense quote: "boring". I am confident that the visiting team this afternoon will be able to RUN the football because Baltimore's star LB Ray Lewis has admitted havng trouble fighting off blocks of opposing offensive linemen. The main reason is because the Ravens' defensive line is getting pushed around much more than in the past. There is a critical number of 21 which I want you all to remember if you get a chance to watch this contest on NFL Sunday Ticket. Baltimore incredibly has won 33 of 41 chances when the team scores AT LEAST 21 points, which may be an unrealistic goal this week against a very tough Buffalo defense. Another KEY to this selection is that star RB Jamal Lewis begins a league imposed SUSPENSION this afternoon in the wake of his guilty plea to dru-related charges. The big question will be can Ravens QB Kyle Boller "step up" the level of his game to cover for his absence? Boller for the next few weeks will be asked to carry much more of the load instead of just "managing" the game. I am not so sure he can come through considering that he has thrown for LESS than 100 yards FIVE times in 14 career starts. Even the Buffalo DEFENSE will be getting an extra jolt in the secondary this week, as former New England star safety Lawyer Milloy finally returns from a fracutred forearm which cost him to miss SIX games. Milloy's presence alone will add much needed VETERAN leadership to the Bills secondary, which will make it even harder for Boller to be effective. Buffalo is 7-2 ATS as an OCTOBER road underdog off a SU victory. But the big news is that Baltimore is a horrible 1-6 ATS THE PAST THREE SEASONS off an outright road victory! I am going to personally try the Bills on the Money Line.
GOOD LUCK
