A California couple who allegedly refused to sign a coronavirus quarantine acknowledgment after checking into a Hawaii hotel for their honeymoon found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Borice Leouskiy, 20, and Yuliia Andreichenko, 26, were arrested after leaving their Waikiki-area hotel by special agents for the Department of the Hawaii Attorney General on Thursday.

"We appreciate the vigilance and cooperation of the hotel staff, and staff at other hotels, in helping maintain the health and safety of visitors and residents," state Attorney General Clare Connors said in a statement. "It is important that everyone flying into Hawai'i at this time, abide by our mandatory rules."

Connors' office did not name the hotel.

Leouskiy and Andreichenko are being charged under Hawai'i Revised Statutes for unsworn falsification to authority and violation of the 14-day quarantine.

The couple is from Citrus Heights, California. California has reported more than 53,000 coronavirus cases, while Hawaii has reported 620 cases.

Andreichenko is a Ukrainian national and Leouskiy is a U.S. citizen, according to the Hawaii attorney general's office.

Oh this will go over well with vacationers......this isn't the time to go traveling, people should wait until at least August.

You have to respect the wishes of the locals. A lot of people from NYC want to move into their summer homes in CT, and I respect that. However, those towns want them to self quarantine for two weeks, and I respect that as well.

They want them to self quarantine for the same reasons these people want to escape the city

Until communities and resorts remove self quarantine requirements, I know I'm not going anywhere.

Nailed it. I've been reading Hawaii is pretty vigilant with tourists breaking their local 14 day quarantine laws. If not arrested, they're just immediately sending them back to the airport to go home. No questions asked.

Willie makes a great point. If the local government tells us to do something, it has to be respected.

There are significant differences between a two week self quarantine and voluntary social distancing and indefinite government lockdown on nearly all lives

Nope. That's why you see the protests you do.

You can't sit on a dock in some states and go fishing.
You can't travel to your cabin in the woods in some states.
Some states have the clothes sections roped off in Walmart.

All of this is ludicrous and the reason people have had enough.

There is way to many inconsistency with the states on this public health issue...

It is a different situation than a state law type deal...Like gambling or bars being open 24/7 in one state does not affect other states...

However with the way this spreads there should have been a more uniform outline for all states to follow...

But then again that is one of the great things about living in the good ole United STATES of America...STATES rights...

Some tough decisions and some hard stances are going to be needed...

This is a great point. The quarantine for that couple should have been voluntary social distancing, it should not have been a government lockdown on their lives.

Enfuego makes a great point. I feel fortunate that I'm in a state where Wal-Marts sell clothes, I can drive to my cabin and sit on my dock while I am there. If I was in a state where that was taken away I definitely would have had enough.
