Speak for yourself. I sit in traffic jam after traffic jam in this city all day long. This comes as no surprise though to me as I knew this when I came here.

But with that said I think gambling and casinos as a whole continue to get bigger and bigger across the united states, meaning I dont think people get as excitied to come here anymore as they can literally do almost all of the same things in their own backyard nowadays.

I don't know, Ice. I think people are getting tired of gambling. When I first started playing $5 blackjack, I wanted to go to the boat all the time. Now, you couldn't pay me to play that stupid game. Craps was fun at first too, but after awhile, you realize that you're a sucker for playing, and just giving your money away. It's a cheap thrill that I think many are learning is not worth it. I played craps in Vegas at the bash and lost. I may never play again. Yeah, it's fun. Is the fun worth it? Many people choose to never gamble. A few become degenerate gamblers. And then there are the rest of us. Speaking for myself and my friends, it just loses its appeal very quickly. Sportsbetting is the same way. I started betting $20 a game for fun and it was awesome to have action. Right now, I have $200 on Colorado, and I don't even feel like watching the game. It just gets old.

Add to this the fact that the economy is in shambles, and I think you'd be a fool to build a casino anywhere right now.

I agree, I used to love to play, no there is so much bullshit. You get a cell phone call and you stop playing as if you violated national security.

Vegas is/was to arrogant for its own good. They keep building and pricing the middle class right out of town. Hotels costing $200 that aren't worth $100 bucks.

I agree Illini.

But I also that also is a sign of age and maturity. I have been here 6 weeks, walked thru dozens and dozens of casinos and still havent played 1 hand of blackjack, etc.. I think there will always be another generation of gamblers right behind the last one though.

This new generation may come to Vegas only once, though. The older folks come more like every year... or used to.

Things aren't the same in Vegas, as they were 10,20 years ago. Vegas doesn't too much over other casinos throughout the country.

Many would rather go elsewhere in the summer. I think others would rather go to a warmer place in the winter. Florida could be huge... I'm not sure how much gambling they have. I'd sure rather go down there Dec- March.

I wouldn't go to Vegas w/o a comped room from RX/SBR,etc.

Lots of Vegas hotels are now very rundown.... most of DT, IP,Circus Circus,Trop, etc. Others are pricey. Shows are way expensive.

Does "spend" mean lose ?

If it means put 2k thru a machine.... that's not much at all.

So then you are required to "risk" 2k thru a slot machine, that might return 98%... that's only like a $40 hold for the casino, for each of you. That is a Hell of a deal, if you mean that ?

Spend can't mean lose, as you could win, I'd expect they'd want upwards of $100/hand for 4 hours a day at BJ for this level of comp.

Blame a whole bunch on Harrahs

Since Harrahs has expanded and now owns a huge chuck of the big casino's, things have gotten worse for the gambler who likes to have a decent shot at winning. They simply give bad odds on almost all their tables and slots.

Remember how the BlackJack tables at the Horseshoe were so popular before Harrahs - Not any more - very little play there compared to a couple of years back and YEARS AND YEARS of great gambling provided by the Binions.

I also think they are the ones that started the 6/5 BJ BS!!!!!!
I refuse to play at any of their casinos!

Still love Vegas, but have to be much more selective if want to get fair deal playing.

$100/hand for 4hr/day at mgm/harrahs might get a buffet, certainly not full rfb

Actually, I think that the opening of more casinos around the country has helped Vegas rather than hurt it. Once a player gets a taste of what gambling is all about, they just HAVE to go to Vegas to see what it's all about!

I think it's all a matter of perception what comps you get or at least used to be in Atlantic City.
Many years ago (10 to 15 as a guess in yrs.) I went to AC on vacation for a week. Took all the cash I could get easily, some from credit cards. Went to Harrahs and parked. No room yet or anything early in the afternoon. Bought $5,000 in chips at a $5.00 craps table. Bet about $300 on the pass line and the next thing you know some executive came over gave me his card started talking and comped me a free room for 3 nights! I kid you not ! The rest of my bets were small after that one. I'm an extremely small player.
Yes, I ended up loosing overal for the 3 days. But it seemed to me based on the fact I BOUGHT chips--was the reason I was comped.
Maybe those days long gone.

.

I'm still unsure how Scott is getting RFB,airfare, and boxing tickets comped.
no we never get airfare ! just food, one room, and fight tickets !! but we gamble..... lots !! plus we don't go to shows....we stay in the cassino and play for hours at a time !!! and the players card counts it all....and when you have two people playing slots for maybe 10 hours at a time......they know when we come to vegas.... we are not there to look at the sites !!! we come to gamble ! :103631605 but over-all .....vegas has allot of our money !!!

This is a good thread and I agree with many that have posted. Vegas has gotten away from their core...gambling as the number one focus. Vegas now expects people to pay high hotel rates, high food costs while lowering the odds.

Less competition has made it worse as well. Vegas better be very careful, its a very slippery slope.
