need computer help

my computer is as slow as hell lately and freezes for a few seconds at a time I run adaware and it isn't helping. Is there any free virus scans that work? I have McAfee but I would have to renew it and I didn't think it worked well when I had it anyways. Any suggestions?

As stated in another thread up at the top here... AVG works well but they are going PAY soon. My companies use McAfee at the moment. What kind of specs are in the computer?

Even my 1.2 Ghz AMD seems slow now >:T Our 2.2 Ghz' run pretty smooth. Make sure you have at least 512 RAM to get by... 1GB or more for smooth sailing.

Use avast - they are free and being dubbed the avg replacement.

AVG is still free, just a new version. Get some kind of antivirus and keep it updated. You can go here to get a free online virus scan for now.
