With the NBA trade deadline now in the rearview mirror, there should be a renewed sense of focus for the teams that were being talked about the most in terms of making major moves to gear up for playoff runs. The New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and Dallas Mavericks were all considered to be major players in the trade market ahead of Thursday’s deadline, and now that their rosters are set for the remainder of the season, they can concentrate on buckling down and looking within for what it will take to make a major splash this postseason, beginning with a weekend that will be dominated by the March Madness betting tournament.

The Knicks were expected to make a major move at the deadline with respect to the ongoing feud between star forward Carmelo Anthony and head coach Mike D’Antoni, but in the end it was actually the coach leaving town rather than the player. D’Antoni resigned on Thursday after meeting with management and ownership to discuss what he needed to win, and when the two couldn’t reach an agreement on how they felt the future of the team should be handled, D’Antoni resigned. New York responded with one of its biggest wins of the season in a 121-79 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, and whether fans choose to read between the lines or not is up to them. Next on the list of issues that the Knicks will have to address is their awful winless record on the road against teams with winning records. The Pacers represent a tough test, but if New York plays this game the way they did in Portland, they should be able to end the drought.

Few teams as talented as the Bulls would be talked about as much leading up to the trade deadline if it weren’t for the possible availability of a superstar as big as Dwight Howard, and even though Chicago couldn’t land the big man they are still a major price per head sportsbook contender. The Bulls are already the best rebounding team in the NBA, and with Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer both knowing for sure that they won’t be leaving town anytime soon, they can concentrate on doing what it takes to bring their pay head game to the highest possible level.

The Mavericks have been called the most average defending championship team and rightfully so, but there is reason to believe they aren’t as bad as they have played. Vince Carter has given them a bit of a spark on offense, and with the ability to possibly add a couple of star players in the offseason, it is definitely worth letting Tyson Chandler go. Meanwhile, even without adding any star caliber players the Spurs have looked like a much better team this season with a rejuvenated Tim Duncan and Tony Parker leading the way. San Antonio proved on this year’s Rodeo road trip that they can get the job done away from home, and there is no doubt they will get up to play the defending NBA champions as per head underdogs.
