Wow, last time I've been there was 2002, it was a smaller casino then and it was dry. Now it's a fairly large casino with 5 hotels, 72 holes, 20 restaurants (or places to eat)
We planned on going to Turning Stone for Wednesday night and then to a hotel in downtown Saratoga we love. We were going to lounge in their rooftop bar and bet the races watching them on large TV's. We even signed up for NYRA accounts on our phones to bet remotely. Well Thursday turned out to be an awful day, pouring rain, we knew Saratoga would suck with tons of scratches. I called our hotel in Saratoga. , asked them to give me credit and I'll come back another day because we didn't want to waste a day there considering the weather. Without hesitation, she just canceled my reservation and said "see you next time", so we booked another night at Turning Stone.
The only Covid rules were you had to wear a face mask and you had to sanitize your hands whenever you walked up to a table. There was no cocktail service either, you had to go to a bar and buy drinks along with something to eat. Once you ordered food, you can order as many drinks as you want. So we would have two drinks at the bar and take one to go.
The casino vibe was great. Large crowd, active tables. No spacing limitations, 6 people or more people could squeeze into both sides of a craps table. No spacing at slot machines either. We enjoyed the casino experience
The sports-book by Caesars is modern, open, with plenty of TV's. Looks like a fun place to hang, but we were there during all the protest cancellations and we didn't bother looking for sports action. You can NOT bet on horses there
We stayed at the Lodge Hotel, large and comfortable Suite with easy access to the casino. Great room
Saw plenty of golfing parties, although Thursday was a rain-out.
The only thing I wasn't impressed with were the restaurants. Adequate, not bad, won't keep me away, but not gourmet quality. To be fair, we didn't eat at their highest rated restaurant, which is their steakhouse. I didn't know this until this morning.
Anyhow, anyone looking for a casino escape and / or golf, hiking, sightseeing, I think Turning Stone is a great option. Especially nowadays
