My Christmas (tax season)

Late Jan/ early Feb is my Christmas. A 8k+ return. My favorite time of the year. Finally have a job that gets a good tax return. You can have your holidays with the in-laws and your package of socks/underwear. I'll take the tax season. I love this time of year!!!!
Do you guys make out at tax time or do you lose out (I did for years)?

Maybe your tax situation is different, but in general I don't understand why people are happy and excited to get a big tax return check. The $8000 your getting back could have been doing a whole lot more for you than sitting in Uncle Sam's wallet all year. For example, if twice a month you threw a few hundred dollars ($8000 / 12 = $666 per month that you over-paid) into a high rate CD or equivalent (see bankrate.com 100 highest yield CDs) you'd be up an extra $300 or $350 by now.
