Obviously this was staged on MTV's part. The seating charts are pre- arranged before the shows and they know where everyone will end up sitting. They positioned Cohen perfectly over Eminem's head, and dropped him nice and slow 69 position into Eminem's lap. So this was staged.
Eminem I'm not so sure about.
His performances on stage hardly promote his album compared to the controversy this created. Nobody is talking about Eminem's performances last night, but they are talking about this. He is an extreme homophobe, but he does have a sense of humor and has been working closely with MTV over the past few months. Then there was that 2nd camera shot later in the show that showed Cohen chasing after Eminem in a flaming way, and Eminem running away - almost like a funny continuation. I thought that proved it was staged and Eminem was in on it. Then Ryan Seacrest "twittered" today that he is hearing that it was real anger and Eminem and co. left the building and stormed out.
Not sure what to think. If it all looks staged, nobody talks about it today. I think a genuine reaction from Eminem was the key to it "promoting" itself today.
Sure, I believe it was staged but I think everyone BUT Eminem and his crew were in on it.
LMAO

You can just tell by Em's face that he clearly is not happy and NOT in on the joke.
I saw 8 mile. The guy can't act. So I conclude that it HAS to be real.
Good post. He fooled me. Guess Em can act better than I give him credit for. From EW.com
Sources close to MTV and Sacha Baron Cohen tell EW that the infamous stunt on the show between Eminem and the Bruno star was staged, with Eminem's consent and participation. The sources confirm rampant speculation that the rapper simply must have known that the comedian, dressed in a thong and angel's wings as his flamboyantly gay alter ego Bruno, would fall from a high-wire harness onto the rapper's lap and straddle his face.
Meanwhile, comedy writer Scott Aukerman, who says he was the head comedy writer for the awards show, also claims on his blog that "the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged," explaining "they rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show."
MTV and Eminem have had no comment.
It was also reported that Paris Hilton was the first choice for Cohen to land on but she turned it down. :think2: Paris Hilton turning down cock to the face, now I know the world is coming to an end.
Andy Samberg’s head writer on the MTV Movie Awards, Scott Aukerman, now admits that the controversial Bruno/Eminem stunt was completely staged and rehearsed.Which means that Slim Shady -- who appeared to be utterly horrified at the sight of Bruno's privates and later stormed out of the Universal Ampitheatre in anger -- is a much better actor than he proved in "Eight Mile."
Why, he's poised to be the new Sean Penn!
According to the Pop and Hiss blog, after a day of silence from Slim Shady and MTV, Aukerman wrote on his Tumbler: "Yes, the Eminem-Bruno incident was staged. They rehearsed it at dress [rehearsal] and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show."
What about the angry look Eminem gave Cohen’s buttocks? Just acting.
And that serious storm-out? According to TV Guide, "Most of the big celebs came, did their thing and left."
Missed the show and the video of the stunt? Watch it again here
Until I see Eminem admit this on camera I don't believe he was in on a joke allowing another man's ass, cock and balls in his face on national television.
