This game matches two teams who have different mentalities. Tennessee has always been one of the most physical teams in the NFL, they come right at you on offense and on defense. Green Bay, on the other hand tends to rely more on speed, finesse and creativity on both sides of the ball.
So who will have the edge.....
When Green Bay has the ball their running game revolves around the off-tackle running plays with Ahman Green, screen passes to the tight ends and backs and spreading the passing game to WR's Driver, Walker and Ferguson. The Titans play a physical style on defense and usually play man on the outside with CB's Rolle and Dyson. Because of the corners they are able to successfully bring the strong safety in the box to stop the run with an 8 man front. The injury to Schulters has hurt them in their defensive game planning but that is their style. The Packers had trouble with the Giants front seven last game without Center Mike Flanagan, who is responsible for calling blocking schemes. Replacement Grey Ruegammer appeared to have trouble not only making the proper line calls but also committed some very stupid penalties. Tennessee is always physical up front and tonight with Brett Favre still smarting you can bet Jeff Fischer will smell blood and blitz him often to see how sharp he is after missing alot of practice time this week. However, with the blitz there is always the opportunities for big plays down the field. I think if Green Bay has any success on offense tonight the man to watch is tight end Bubba Franks. He will have to be an effective blocker and will be important in the passing game. You will see alot of screens from the Packers to try to slow down Tennessee's pass rush and blitzes.
On offense you can count on Tennessee to try to pound the ball with Chris Brown against the undersized Packers defense. They are a finesse defense that is built around speed. They must run blitz and play mixed 8 man fronts often tonight to have any chance of stopping the run. Against the Giants they were awful with their gap responsibilities especially Safety Mark Roman. Unfortunately for the Pack they dont have that physical safety to play in the box like a LeRoy Butler used to be for them. Roman and Sharper are both former cornerbacks who are not hitters but ball hawks. If Tennessee gets the running game going and keeps the Packers defense on the field they will wear down like the Redskins defense last night. The Titans will also try to get the ball out quickly to the tight ends and backs to minimize the hits on their recovering QB Mc Nair.
I see alot of big runs for the Titans and the possibility for Green Bay to hit some big plays down the field. Green Bay is not the team they have been at Lambeau and I think that will continue tonight.
THE RESULT: Tennessee should be too physical for the Pack tonight on both sides of the ball and should come away with a victory by a small margin.
