Monday's NBA Finals Game 5 Betting Preview: Cavaliers at Warriors

Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors (-8.5, 230.5)

Warriors lead series 3-1

The Cleveland Cavaliers avoided the sweep and aim to remain alive again on Monday when they visit the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The Cavaliers rolled to an impressive 137-116 victory in Game 4 when they drained a Finals' record 24 3-pointers and badly outplayed Golden State.

Cleveland exposed the Warriors' defense with Finals' records for first-quarter points (49) and halftime points (86) and received a sensational offensive performance from point guard Kyrie Irving. "The magnitude of the games, especially the last game, it hit me in a very deep place," Irving said after his 40-point performance. "Just you want to play extremely well and you understand that's a do-or-die game." Golden State blew a 3-1 series lead while losing to the Cavaliers in last season's Finals but continue to say it is a different team - one that won its first 15 postseason games prior to being spanked on Friday. "I don't think there was any concern or thoughts about history," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters. "I think it was we played a desperate team on their home floor, a great team, with great players, and they came out and handed it to us. Simple as that."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ABC

LINE HISTORY: The Warriors opened as 8.5-point home favorites for Game 5 and the total hit the board at a massive 230.5. Neither number has moved thus far.

INJURY REPORT:

Cavaliers - C E. Tavares (Out For Season, hand).

Warriors - C Z. Pachulia (Questionable, possible suspension), SF K. Looney (Out Indefinitely, hip).

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (64-35 SU, 45-50-4 ATS, 59-39-1 O/U): Irving is averaging 39 points over the past two games and 30.3 for the series as he continues to raise his growing reputation as a big-time player. "He's just been built for that moment," Cleveland star forward LeBron James told reporters. "I said that over and over again - that he's always been built for the biggest moments, and he showed that once again. It's not surprising. He's just that special." James isn't doing so bad himself with averages of 31.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 10.5 assists and he posted his ninth career playoff triple-double in Game 4 to break a tie with legendary Magic Johnson for most all-time.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (82-16 SU, 51-44-3 ATS, 44-54 O.U): Forward Draymond Green's absence in Game 5 of last season's Finals due to his accumulation of technical fouls helped fuel Cleveland's comeback but Green says the situation is different this season as the reminders increase. "I'm sure that's just the world we live in," Green told reporters. "But we were up 3-0 (this year). We weren't up 3-0 last year. So, it's a little different. And at the end of the day, the series is a little different. Thank God I get to play in Game 5." Green's offense has been much quieter than his vocal cords as he is averaging 11.3 points on just 35.6 percent shooting to go along with 9.8 rebounds per game.

TRENDS:

* Cavaliers are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Western Conference.
* Warriors are 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
* Over is 4-1 in Cavaliers last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
* Under is 11-1 in Warriors last 12 games following a straight up loss.
* Under is 7-1-2 in the last 10 meetings in Golden State.

CONSENSUS: 60 percent of users are siding with the road underdog Cleveland Cavaliers and 63 percent are on the Over.

NBA | Cavs vs Warriors
Play on: UNDER 231 -105

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach Free Pick for NBA Monday UNDER the total in Golden State Warriors vs Cleveland Cavaliers @ 9 ET - Just ridiculously hot shooting and a frenetic pace has allowed 3 straight games in this series to fly over the total. However, one of those 3 overs "only" totaled 231 which is roughly where the Game 5 total sits. Also, in another elimination game for Cleveland and with the fact that Golden State allowed the Cavaliers to hit 24 of 45 three pointers in Game 4, there is truly a nice set up here for expecting some solid defense to be played! The under is 36-19 in Cavs games where they are an underdog the past 3 seasons combined. Also, the under is 9-5 this season in Warriors games with a posted total of 230 points or more. Even with all the craziness in this series, the under is still 22-12 this season in Golden State's games against teams from the Eastern Conference. The under is also 4-2 this season when the Warriors are off of a loss by a double digit margin and also the under is 10-4 this season in games where the Warriors are coming off of an upset loss as a favorite. Free Pick on UNDER the total in Golden State Monday night. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

MLB | Rockies vs Pirates
Play on: Rockies +130 at 5Dimes

Colorado (Freeland) over Pittsburgh (Taillon) @ 8:05

The Rockies (41-24) come storming in after taking the recent road series at Wrigley Field, despite losing Sunday. Pittsburgh (28-35) at home just defeated Miami 3-1 with a great performance from hurler Nova. Colorado has a 1-1/2 game lead in the powerful West Division over LA, and 2 games ahead of Arizona. Along with the Rockies the three teams combined are averaging 40 wins to-date. The Pirates are in last place inside the NL Central where just Milwaukee has a winning record? Lefty Freeland/Colorado are 6-0 with a 2.91 ERA in road starts this season. With Jameson Taillon of the Pirates arriving off the DL since back in May, it appears the visitor has the major edges. Good Luck.

MLB | Yankees vs Angels
Play on: Angels +123 at GTBets

10* FREE MLB PICK (Angels +123)

The public is going to be all over the Yankees in this one, as New York just made the Orioles look like a little league team over the weekend, outscoring Baltimore 38-8 in their 3-game series. That finished up quite a homestand, as they took 2 of 3 against Boston prior to that series, outscoring the Red Sox 17-1 in the final two games of that series. I just think this is a huge letdown spot for New York, as they travel across the country to take on a confident Angels team that just took 2 of 3 on the road against the best team in baseball (Astros). Yankees also send out the struggling Masahiro Tanaka, who has a 7.24 ERA and 1.763 WHIP in 6 road starts. Angels give the rock to Alex Meyer, who has a 2.25 ERA in 3 home starts and a 2.25 ERA over his last 3 outings. Give me Los Angeles +123!

1 Unit Bonus Play on Mets/Cubs OVER 8.5

Two of the better lineups in the National League go toe-to-toe today as the Cubs visit the Mets for a three-game series. The Cubs are scoring 4.6 runs per game this season and still haven't reached their potential. The Mets have scored 4.9 runs per game and are 35-18 to the OVER this season, and now their best hitter in Yoenis Cespedes is back in the lineup. John Lackey is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in his last three starts, and 4-6 with a 5.12 ERA in 12 overall starts this year. Jacob DeGrom is having a down year at 4-3 with a 4.75 ERA in 12 starts, including 0-2 with a 16.88 ERA in his last two starts in which he has allowed 15 earned runs in 8 innings. The wind will be blowing out to right field at 13 miles per hour come game time as well, which should help aid this OVER.

Dave's Monday Bonus Play:

1* on New York Yankees -131

The Key: The New York Yankees are rolling right now as they have won 5 straight while outscoring the opposition 55-9 in the process. They have averaged 11 runs per game during this winning streak. Masahiro Tanaka hasn't pitched to his potential this season, but he has never lost to the Angels, going 1-0 with a 1.71 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 3 lifetime starts against them. The Yankees have gone 3-0 in those 3 outings. The Yankees are 16-1 after a 5 game span where the bullpen ERA was 2.00 or better this season. Take New York.

ASA Bonus Play on Pittsburgh Pirates Money Line (-) over Colorado Rockies, Monday at 7:05 PM ET

We have watched this line with much interest this morning and won't hesitate to step in with a selection on Pittsburgh in this spot. The Pirates are 2-4 in Jameson Taillon's 6 starts this season including 0-2 at home. The Rockies are 9-3 in Kyle Freeland's 12 starts this season including 6-0 on the road. Also, the Rockies have one of the best road records in the majors. More wagers early on have come in on the Rockies as you would expect but the line is moving toward the Pirates who are a bigger favorite now than when the line first came out. The point is that the sharps (and bigger money) certainly have found what they've like here with Pittsburgh and we're on board too. The Rockies lost yesterday afternoon at Chicago to end their winning streak. In terms of Colorado bouncing back tonight, the Rockies are poor 106-147 in night games the past 2+ seasons. The Pirates are 8-4 in home games this season where their money line price range is between -125 and -175. They are in that "sweet spot" for this one now tonight and Pittsburgh has reached double digits in hits in 8 of their last 10 games. Off of back to back wins the Pirates finally have some momentum going in their favor again and we fully expect that momentum to carry right into this series. Public money doesn't bet against one of the hottest road teams (Rockies) in the league folks! In other words, some sharp money is coming in on the Pirates in this one. Count us among that group and this is our Bonus Play: Bet the Pittsburgh Pirates on the money line in early evening action Monday!

Odds makers are clearly making a statement on who they like here. The Rockies have been a great surprise so far this season, but after taking 3 of 4 from the Cubs I believe this is a major let down spot for them here tonight. Talillon is a youngster with a ton of talent, he has a 3.31 ERA on the year. I look for the Pirates to take this game tonight pretty easily

Texas vs. Houston
Pick: Houston

The Houston Astros won 7-3 last Monday, giving them an 11-game winning streak. However, they finished the week by losing four of six. Part of Houston's 11-game winning streak included a sweep at rival Texas and the Astros, who still own MLB's best record at 44-20, will look to start a new streaking when they host the Rangers on Monday in the opener of a three-game series. Texas has a 10-game winning streak of its own (May 9-19) but then lost 12 of 16. However, the 30-32 Rangers are inching their way back to .500, after earning an impressive series sweep of the NL East-leading Washington Nats this past weekend (Texas outscored Washington 16-6).

Yu Darvish (5-4, 3.18 ERA) gets the ball for Texas and Joe Musgrove (4-4, 4.89 ERA) for Houston. Darvish has allowed exactly three ERs in each of his last three outings (he's 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA and Texas is 0-3). One of those starts came against Houston (June 2), when he absorbed the loss while yielding three runs on seven hits in five innings of a 7-1 loss. Darvish is 4-5 with a 3.62 ERA over 13 career starts against the Astros (Texas is 7-6).

Musgrove is coming off the 10-day DL (shoulder) and is making his first start since May 26, when he tossed seven scoreless innings in a win over Baltimore while striking out six and not walking a batter. He has allowed two or fewer ERs in four of his last six outings, although Houston is just 3-3 in those games. Musgrove is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four career starts against the Rangers (team is 1-3).

The Astros look to back on track tonight after a 2-4 stretch since the team's 11-game winning streak ended and Darvish could be "just what the doctor ordered." After all, Darvish is 0-4 with a 5.81 ERA over his last six starts against Houston (Rangers are 1-5).
