Tigers vs Nationals

Bonus Play Detroit Tigers

The Nats limp home after being swept by the Cubs in Chicago. Washington turns to their best pitcher in Stephen Strasburg who is 5-0 with a 2.36 ERA in six starts. Strasburg will be put in an odd role though of not only being the stopper, but the innings eater as well. Washington's bullpen is struggling and will most likely not have Blake Treinen and maybe Jonathan Papelbon who went two innings on Sunday. Strasburg lost his only start against Detroit back in 2013. The Tigers are struggling right now, but are capable of a lot more. They are hitting .296 in six Interleague games and have some talent there. Anibal Sanchez is 9-1 with a 1.98 ERA and a WHIP of 1.139 in 21 starts against the Nats with most of those coming as a Marlin. He has good numbers against Stephen Drew (6-25), Jayson Werth (6-33) and Ryan Zimmerman (11-48). Washington's offense put up some ugly numbers on Sunday and is hitting just .230 at home this season. Bryce Harper was walked six times and it didn't hurt them with Zimmerman's struggles. A Tigers win would be very nice on Monday, but I'll play the price and the value of the runline. There's always the chance Strasburg has one of his rough outings and a capable Detroit lineup takes advantage.

GAME: Detroit Tigers (14-16) at Washington Nationals (19-12)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Star right fielder Bryce Harper is just hoping for a chance to swing the bat when the Washington Nationals host Detroit on Monday in the opener of a three-game interleague series. Harper went 0-for-0 with nine walks and was hit by a pitch on Saturday and Sunday and was walked a total of 13 times in a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

Refusing to let Harper swing the bat proved to be a sound strategy for the Cubs, who swept the four-game set and saddled the Nationals with a 5-5 road trip. Harper, who leads the team with 10 home runs, has only homered once in the last 13 games but has been walked 20 times. The Tigers were swept over the weekend as well and have dropped six straight by a combined 43-16. Detroit suffered a particularly crushing defeat on Sunday, when Justin Verlander went seven scoreless innings before the bullpen let him down in an 8-3 loss that included a grand slam by Texas catcher Bobby Wilson, who was traded by the Tigers last week.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Anibal Sanchez (3-3, 5.87 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (5-0, 2.36)

Sanchez made it through six innings for the first time this season at Cleveland on Wednesday but ended up with a loss while surrendering four runs on four hits and three walks in seven frames. The 32-year-old Venezuela native notched 33 strikeouts in 30 2/3 total innings but has issued 19 walks. Sanchez spent the first 6 1/2 seasons of his career in the NL East with the Marlins and is 9-1 with a 1.98 ERA in 21 career starts against Washington.

Strasburg recorded a quality start in five of his first six outings and Washington earned the win in each of the six games. The free agent-to-be has 26 strikeouts and two walks in his last three turns and scattered two runs and five hits over six innings while fanning seven in a win at Kansas City on Wednesday. Strasburg lost his only career start against Detroit but is 8-3 with a 2.88 ERA in 15 career interleague starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera went 6-for-10 in the last two games to raise his average .291.

2. Harper became the first player in history to reach base seven times without an official at-bat on Sunday.

3. Detroit C James McCann (ankle sprain) is 1-for-12 in four games since coming off the DL.

GAME: Kansas City Royals (15-15) at New York Yankees (11-18)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Yankees attempt to bounce back from a disappointing offensive performance when they begin a four-game series against the visiting Kansas City Royals on Monday. New York managed only three hits on Sunday and was one out away from being blanked for the second time in four days before Brett Gardner launched a solo homer in the 5-1 setback against Boston.

The Yankees hope to have Jacoby Ellsbury back in the lineup soon as the center fielder missed the last two contests against his former team with a hip injury. Kansas City is continuing its seven-game road trip after dropping two of three in Cleveland over the weekend. The reigning World Series champion Royals have lost four straight series since winning two of three against Baltimore from April 22-24, going 3-9 in that stretch. Eric Hosmer has been one of the bright spots for the club as he enters Monday with a seven-game hitting streak and has been held without a hit just once in 26 contests since April 9.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Chris Young (1-4, 5.76 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Ivan Nova (1-1, 5.14)

Young lasted only 4 2/3 innings against Washington on Tuesday and did not factor in the decision after allowing two runs and five hits. The 36-year-old native of Dallas has worked six frames just once in six starts this season and continues to struggle on the road, losing all three outings while posting an 8.36 ERA this campaign after going six turns away from home without a victory last year following a triumph at Boston on Aug. 23. Young is 3-2 with a 4.62 ERA in seven career starts against New York.

Nova will be making his first start of the season in place of CC Sabathia, who is sidelined with a groin injury. The 29-year-old Dominican has made six relief appearances in 2016, allowing eight runs over 14 innings while earning the first save of his career. Nova has been reached for 16 runs - 12 earned - over 16 1/3 frames in three career starts against Kansas City but has posted a 2-1 record.

WALK-OFFS

1. Monday's series opener could mark the Yankees debut of LHP Aroldis Chapman, whose 30-game suspension for violating the league's domestic violence policy has expired.

2. Hosmer has performed well against Nova in his career, going 4-for-9 with two doubles and a home run.

3. New York 3B Chase Headley is hitting .163 after an 0-for-3 effort on Sunday and has not seen his average rise above .200 yet this season.

GAME: Oakland Athletics (14-18) at Boston Red Sox (18-13)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After breaking even on their six-game road trip, the Boston Red Sox look to build off a solid victory when they begin a seven-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics on Monday. Boston avoided a three-game sweep in New York on Sunday as David Ortiz belted two of the team's four homers while Steven Wright tossed his first career complete game, coming within one out of a shutout in a 5-1 triumph.

Ortiz raised his home-run total with the Red Sox to 454, passing Carl Yastrzemski for second place on the franchise list, and his overall amount to 512 as he overtook Hall of Famer Mel Ott for 24th in major-league history. Oakland continues its nine-game road trip after losing two of three at Baltimore over the weekend, including an 11-3 setback on Sunday. Josh Reddick has been on fire of late, recording 10 hits in 12 at-bats while driving in a run in every game of the series against the Orioles and going 12-for-17 during his four-game hitting streak. Athletics pitchers will try to keep the ball in the park after serving up six home runs on Sunday - the club's highest total in a game since April 19, 1994.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN California (Oakland), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Sonny Gray (3-3, 4.84 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Clay Buchholz (1-3, 5.71)

Gray looks to rebound from his second straight loss Tuesday when he was battered for seven runs and 11 hits in seven innings by Seattle. The 26-year-old native of Nashville lasted only two frames at Detroit in his previous outing as his quest for a third consecutive victory ended after yielding four runs on two hits and four walks. Gray has allowed only three runs over 13 innings in two career starts against Boston but was saddled with the loss in his only decision.

Buchholz is coming off his first win of the season, a triumph at Chicago on Wednesday in which he held the White Sox to two runs and three hits over seven innings. The 31-year-old Texan was roughed up for five runs in four of his first five turns this year and is 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA in three home outings. Buchholz has made eight career starts against Oakland, going 3-2 despite posting a 6.81 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Reddick has recorded a hit in eight consecutive at-bats, tying the franchise record.

2. Boston LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) made his third rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday and could be activated this week.

3. Oakland optioned RHP Jesse Hahn to Triple-A Nashville and recalled J.B. Wendelken, who was reached for four runs on four hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings Sunday in his major-league debut.

Preview: Pirates at Reds

GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (17-14) at Cincinnati Reds (13-19)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Pittsburgh Pirates are fresh off a series win at St. Louis and are desperately trying to keep the red-hot Chicago Cubs within spitting distance in the National League Central. The Cincinnati Reds, who host the opener of a three-game series against the Pirates on Monday, are sitting in last place in the Central but took two out of three at home from Pittsburgh early last month.

The Reds put together a three-game winning streak before ending the weekend with a pair of crushing losses to the Milwaukee Brewers. Cincinnati’s league-worst bullpen served up the tying run in the eighth inning before surrendering seven runs in the 10th during Saturday’s 13-7 setback, and three relievers combined to yield four runs on Sunday in a 5-4 loss. The Pirates had dropped four in a row before getting to St. Louis and finally broke out with the bats on Sunday. Pittsburgh pounded out 14 hits and got home runs from John Jaso and Gregory Polanco in the 10-5 victory after failing to score more than four runs in any of the previous five contests.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT Pittsburgh, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates LH Jonathon Niese (3-1, 5.94 ERA) vs. Reds RH Dan Straily (1-1, 3.56)

Niese struggled through each of his last three starts and suffered his first loss on Tuesday against the Cubs, surrendering six runs on nine hits and five walks in five innings. The 29-year-old allowed a total of 15 runs and 29 hits in 15 1/3 innings over his last three turns. Niese is 2-4 with a 4.06 ERA in seven career starts against the Reds.

Straily has been a solid addition to the rotation since moving up from the bullpen last month and logged his first win on Tuesday. The 27-year-old yielded a pair of home runs but limited the damage to three runs in 6 1/3 innings to beat the San Francisco Giants. Straily got the nod at Pittsburgh on Apr. 29 and was reached for two runs on five hits and three walks in six innings but absorbed the loss in a 4-1 final.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cincinnati LHP John Lamb left Sunday’s start in the fifth inning with a sprained thumb.

2. Pirates LF Starling Marte is 7-for-14 with three doubles and three runs scored in the last three games.

3. Jaso’s home run on Sunday was his third of the season, and the other two came against Cincinnati on Apr. 30 and May 1.

Preview: Brewers at Marlins

GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (13-18) at Miami Marlins (16-14)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Milwaukee Brewers took full advantage of the Cincinnati Reds’ porous bullpen to earn a split of a four-game series over the weekend and will try to carry that momentum to the next stop on a seven-game road trip when they visit the Miami Marlins on Monday. The Brewers dropped two of three at home to the Marlins bridging April and May but have won five of their last eight overall.

Milwaukee slugger Chris Carter recorded a pair of home runs in a 14-5 win over the Marlins on May 1 and has five blasts already in May after posting five in all of April. Ryan Braun, Hernan Perez and Jonathan Lucroy each homered in Sunday’s 5-4 win over the Reds, helping the Brewers overcome a 4-1 deficit one day after Milwaukee put up eight runs against the Cincinnati bullpen in a 13-7 triumph. The Marlins had won 11 of 12 before dropping a pair of one-run decisions to the surprising Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday and Sunday. Miami’s bullpen is not nearly as bad as Cincinnati but endured an off day on Sunday when David Phelps yielded two runs and was charged with a blown save.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Wily Peralta (2-3, 7.50 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jose Fernandez (3-2, 4.28)

Peralta had his start pushed back after leaving the team for the birth of his child but will take the mound on Monday in search of his third straight win. Peralta was knocked around for five runs on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings and did not record a strikeout on May 1 against Miami but still came away with the victory as the Brewers offense exploded for 14 runs. Peralta has only completed six innings in one of his six starts but the team is 3-3 when he takes the mound.

Fernandez is looking for his third straight win as well but is also struggling to go deep into games. The Cuba native needed 99 pitches to get through five innings against Arizona on Tuesday but limited the damage to three runs and managed to pull out the win in a 4-3 final. Fernandez is making his first career start against Milwaukee.

WALK-OFFS

1. Miami 3B Martin Prado went 4-for-5 on Sunday and leads the majors with a .396 batting average.

2. Braun has hit safely in each of the last eight games and homered in two straight.

3. Milwaukee 3B Aaron Hill is enjoying a nine-game hitting streak and homered three times on Saturday.

Preview: Padres at Cubs

GAME: San Diego Padres (13-19) at Chicago Cubs (24-6)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago Cubs’ red-hot start is approaching historic proportions. The Cubs are the 10th team in major-league history to win at least 24 of its first 30 games – and the first since the 1984 Detroit Tigers – and look to add to their winning ways when they host the San Diego Padres for a three-game series starting Monday.

Chicago has won seven straight and 11 of 12 and is coming off a four-game sweep of the Washington Nationals. Javier Baez’s homer in the 13th inning lifted the Cubs to a 4-3 victory Sunday, improving their home mark to 11-3. The Padres dropped the final two games of their four-game set with the New York Mets over the weekend but have won or split their last three series, winning six of their last 10 games. San Diego has not lost a road series to the Cubs since 2012, going 6-4 at Wrigley Field over the past three seasons.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Cesar Vargas (0-1, 1.10 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (3-1, 1.58)

Vargas is trying to become the first Padres pitcher to open his career by allowing one run or fewer in each of his first four starts. The 24-year-old Mexican doesn’t miss a lot of bats – he has 12 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings – but hitters haven’t been able to square him up often. Vargas is still looking for his first win, though, as the Padres have totaled seven runs in his three starts.

Lester had his streak of five straight quality starts snapped with his last outing, but he didn’t allow a run over 5 2/3 innings in a win at Pittsburgh. The 32-year-old is still looking for his first win this season at Wrigley Field, where he is 0-1 with a 2.21 ERA in three starts. Lester has faced the Padres twice, going 0-1 with a 2.92 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs 2B/OF Ben Zobrist is 9-for-25 with four home runs during a seven-game hitting streak.

2. The Padres have averaged 6.2 runs in their 13 wins and 1.9 runs in their 19 losses.

3. The Cubs are 23-0 when leading after eight innings.

GAME: Chicago White Sox (22-10) at Texas Rangers (18-14)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

A road trip that got off to an ugly start ended on a high note for the Texas Rangers, who return home riding a three-game winning streak as they prepare to open a three-game series against the American League Central-leading Chicago White Sox on Monday. Chicago also has won three straight following a series sweep of Minnesota.

After losing the final three contests of a four-game set in Toronto, the Rangers mashed Detroit into submission by belting eight home runs and outscoring the Tigers 23-9. Leadoff batter Rougned Odor had a huge series in Detroit, going 7-for-15 with two homers, four RBIs and four runs scored. The White Sox own the best record in the AL at 22-10 after outscoring the Twins 20-7 to move 12 games above .500 for the first time since September 2012. "You couldn't really ask for a better start," Chicago third baseman Todd Frazier told reporters.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, WPWR (Chicago), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (0-0, 8.44 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Colby Lewis (2-0, 3.32)

Gonzalez is next in line to take over the No. 5 spot in the rotation after veteran left-hander John Danks was cut loose and Erik Johnson was knocked around in his audition for the role. Gonzalez, who will be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, was rocked in his lone appearance on April 25 in Toronto, giving up five runs and 11 hits while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings. Gonzalez made 95 starts for Baltimore over the previous four seasons, posting a 39-33 record.

Lewis continues to churn out lengthy outings for the Rangers, going seven innings and giving up three runs on seven hits while matching a season high with seven strikeouts in a no-decision at Toronto on Wednesday. He also worked seven frames in his previous turn and has pitched at least six innings in each of his six starts. Chicago's Austin Jackson is 13-for-34 against Lewis, who is 7-3 with a 3.72 ERA in 14 career appearances (12 starts) versus the White Sox.

WALK-OFFS

1. White Sox RF Avisail Garcia is riding a nine-game hitting streak.

2. Odor has recorded multiple hits in seven of his last nine games, going 17-for-43 in that span.

3. Since Alex Avila was injured, fellow Chicago C Dioner Novarro has hit safely in 11 of 13 games with 11 RBIs.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (15-13) at Houston Astros (12-20)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Coming off his first shutout since his American League Cy Young Award-winning campaign of 2014, Corey Kluber will take the mound when the Cleveland Indians open a three-game series against the host Houston Astros on Monday. The Indians are coming off a 5-1 homestand after taking two of three from Kansas City.

Carlos Santana and Mike Napoli homered in Sunday's 5-4 victory for Cleveland, which has scored 32 runs in its last five wins. “That was good. We needed to,” Indians manager Terry Francona said of the way his team rebounded after dropping five of six to close out a nine-game road trip. Houston salvaged a four-game split against visiting Seattle with a 5-1 win on Sunday but remains buried in the AL West basement with a 12-20 record. Mike Fiers will start the series opener for the Astros, who are wrapping up a 10-game homestand.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), ROOT (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Corey Kluber (2-3, 3.35 ERA) vs. Astros RH Mike Fiers (2-1, 5.35)

After opening the season with three consecutive defeats, Kluber turned in his third straight stellar outing by blanking Detroit on five hits for his second career shutout. The 30-year-old has permitted three earned runs and 12 hits while striking out 23 batters in 24 innings over his last three turns after yielding 13 runs and 22 hits in his first three starts. Kluber has a great track history against the Astros, posting a 4-1 record and 1.48 ERA.

Fiers is coming off his shortest outing of the season, lasting only 4 2/3 innings while giving up four runs and nine hits after being staked to an early six-run lead against Minnesota. He worked a season-high seven frames in his previous turn at Oakland but had to settle for a no-decision despite giving up two runs and seven hits. Fiers has not factored in the decision in two starts against the White Sox but has limited them to two runs in 13 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Indians RHP Bryan Shaw has not allowed a run in his last six appearances while holding the opposition to one hit in 17 at-bats.

2. Astros 2B Jose Altuve is 9-for-17 with two homers, five RBIs and eight runs scored in his last five games.

3. Cleveland won five of its seven meetings with Houston in 2015.

GAME: Baltimore Orioles (18-12) at Minnesota Twins (8-23)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Baltimore Orioles' offense is clicking on all cylinders after smashing a season-high six home runs in their most recent win, while the Minnesota Twins' engine is sputtering as a result of missing most of its key parts. The Orioles look to continue the suffering of the American League-worst Twins when the clubs open a three-game set in Minnesota on Monday.

Manny Machado blasted two homers - and finished with a career-high six RBIs - while Mark Trumbo also went deep and fell a double short of the cycle to lead Baltimore to an 11-3 rout in the rubber match of its series with the Oakland Athletics on Sunday. "You just really want to play a good game … because you don't get many opportunities where you've got a full house and the weather's letter perfect," Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters after the win. The Twins are scuffling for offense as a result of most of its infield either being on the disabled list (shortstop Eduardo Escobar) or nursing injuries (catcher Kurt Suzuki, second baseman Brian Dozier and third baseman Trevor Plouffe). Minnesota, which has dropped nine of 10, was swept in Baltimore to begin the season as part of its 0-9 start and mustered only seven runs while losing all three of its games in Chicago against the White Sox over the weekend.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Baltimore), FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Tyler Wilson (1-1, 3.04 ERA) vs. Twins RH Jose Berrios (1-1, 6.75)

After beginning the season in the bullpen, Wilson turned in his best start in three tries since joining the rotation in Wednesday's loss versus the New York Yankees, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks across six innings. The Virginia product has posted a 4.02 ERA in three turns after recording a 1.13 ERA as a reliever, but his last outing was the first in which he lasted more than five frames. Wilson took over for Chris Tillman after a rain delay on opening day, tossing three scoreless relief innings against the Twins.

Berrios flirted with danger all night in his last outing but held on for his first victory last Monday, working around three hits - including a pair of homers - and five walks while fanning eight over 5 1/3 innings at Houston. The effort was an improvement for the 21-year-old Puerto Rican, who gave up five runs over four frames in a loss to Cleveland in his major-league debut on April 27. Berrios has baffled right-handed hitters through his first two career starts, allowing only one hit in 13 at-bats against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. Machado on Sunday became the first player to have a game with at least two home runs and six RBIs as a shortstop since Juan Uribe on Sept. 23, 2010.

2. Dozier (hamstring) did not start in any of the three games against the White Sox over the weekend but hopes to return to the lineup for the opener.

3. Baltimore has belted at least three homers in six games this season and leads the AL with 43.

Preview: Diamondbacks at Rockies

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (15-18) at Colorado Rockies (15-16)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Colorado Rockies began a winning road trip with a series sweep in Arizona and now will try to kick off a successful homestand against the same Diamondbacks when the teams open a three-game set Monday. The Rockies went 6-4 on their 10-game sojourn, opening with three straight victories in the desert by a combined score of 20-5 and ending with Sunday's 2-0 win at San Francisco.

Nolan Arenado stayed hot with three hits and an RBI as Colorado picked up its third shutout win on the trip. The Diamondbacks followed up their sweep at the hands of the Rockies with three more losses to Miami but they recovered nicely over the weekend in Atlanta. Backup catcher Chris Herrmann slugged a pair of homers to lift Arizona to a 5-3 win in 11 innings over the Braves on Sunday, completing a three-game sweep. Former No. 1 pick Archie Bradley, who was struck in the face by a line drive off the bat of Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez last April, is being called up to start the series opener for the Diamondbacks opposite Tyler Chatwood, who did not allow a run in 14 1/3 innings over his last two starts.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Archie Bradley (0-0, 10.38 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (4-2, 2.15)

Bradley's promotion will give everyone in the rotation an extra day off as the Diamondbacks plow through a stretch in which they are scheduled to play 16 games in as many days. He gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 frames at San Francisco on April 18 before returning to Triple-A Reno and allowing four runs in 20 innings over a span of three outings. The 23-year-old was 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA before the Gonzalez line drive ended his start against the Rockies last season and he has gone 0-3 with a 10.80 mark in five major-league outings ever since.

Chatwood extended his scoreless streak with eight stellar innings in a 2-0 win at San Diego on Wednesday. That left him 4-0 with a 0.33 ERA on the road - including two wins at Arizona - but the California native is 0-2 with a 7.20 mark at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Chatwood is 4-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his career against the Diamondbacks but will be wary of center fielder Chris Owings, who has three doubles and a single in seven at-bats versus the 26-year-old.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks slugger 1B Paul Goldschmidt is 1-for-18 with nine strikeouts over his last five games.

2. Arenado hit .368 with three home runs on the road trip.

3. Herrmann has three straight two-hit efforts after opening the season 4-for-29.

Preview: Rays at Mariners

5-Day Forecast GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (15-14) at Seattle Mariners (18-13)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The red-hot Robinson Cano looks to stay on a roll when his Seattle Mariners host the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night to open a three-game series. Cano leads the American League with 12 homers – four in the last eight games as he has gone 18-for-35 with nine RBIs – and has made a habit of punishing Tampa Bay with a .314 average, 24 blasts and 101 RBIs in 166 contests.

Cano has hit safely in eight straight outings and Kyle Seager is 16-for-37 with three homers during a nine-game hitting streak for the Mariners, who finished a 5-2 road trip with a loss at Houston on Sunday. Felix Hernandez attempts to improve on his 7-2 lifetime mark against the Rays on Monday when he faces Matt Moore, who comes in with three straight losses. Tampa Bay is also on the upswing while boasting a season-high four-game win streak, including a 3-1 triumph at the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday that pushed the Rays over .500 (15-14) for the first time in 2016. Brad Miller’s bat appears to be waking up for Tampa Bay after going 6-for-14 with two homers in the sweep of the Angels.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays LH Matt Moore (1-3, 4.95 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (2-2, 2.21)

Moore comes in off his worst start of the season when he allowed seven runs and eight hits in a season-low 4 1/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 26-year-old gave up six runs in his first three outings and 14 in the past three while surrendering six homers overall. Cano is 5-for-20 with a homer versus Moore, who is 1-1 with a 1.71 ERA in four career games against the Mariners.

Hernandez avoided a loss last time out after permitting eight runs (four earned) over four innings at Oakland. The 30-year-old Venezuelan yielded one or fewer earned runs in four of his previous five starts and is holding opponents to a .204 average overall. Evan Longoria is just 6-for-27 with 11 strikeouts against Hernandez, who owns a 1.90 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 113 2/3 innings versus Tampa Bay.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay RF Steven Souza Jr. is 6-for-13 with two homers and three RBIs during a four-game hitting streak.

2. The Mariners won four of the seven meetings last season, but went 1-3 in four games at Seattle.

3. Rays RHP Alex Colome, a closer for the first time this season, is 9-for-9 in save opportunities with a 0.92 WHIP.

Preview: Mets at Dodgers

GAME: New York Mets (19-11) at Los Angeles Dodgers (16-15)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost twice on their home field in the National League Division Series last postseason after going 55-26 there during the regular season, paving the way for the New York Mets to enjoy their first pennant since 2000. The two division winners from a season ago reconvene at Dodger Stadium for the first time since, when the Mets visit for the first of four games in Los Angeles on Monday.

The Mets rode Jacob deGrom to a pair of low-scoring wins in California last October, including a do-or-die Game 5 that gave New York the momentum it needed to sweep the Chicago Cubs in the next round before losing in five games to the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. Pitching proved to be the difference for the Mets in the NLDS, as they limited the Dodgers to eight total runs over three meetings in Los Angeles. New York completed the first leg of its 11-game road trip against NL West opponents on a high note, getting a 4-3 win over San Diego on Sunday to earn a split of the four-game series. Los Angeles has reason to be equally optimistic about its recent play, holding the vaunted Blue Jays' offense to two runs in each of its final two games to take two of three in Toronto.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), SportsNet LA (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Steven Matz (4-1, 2.83 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Scott Kazmir (2-2, 5.68)

Matz was dominant in his last outing on Wednesday against Atlanta, yielding only two singles and no walks while striking out eight over 7 2/3 innings to notch his fourth win in as many starts. It marked the third time in four outings the 24-year-old left a start without giving up a run - a stretch during which he hasn't surrendered a home run. Matz took the loss in Game 4 of the NLDS in his last start versus the Dodgers but defeated them by working six scoreless frames in his second career start last July.

Kazmir struck out a season-high nine and recorded his 100th career win in Tuesday's 10-5 victory over Tampa Bay, but yielded four runs on seven hits - including a pair of homers - and a walk over 6 2/3 innings. The three-time All-Star has given up at least four runs and seven hits in four of his last five turns but is 2-1 despite a 4.80 ERA in three starts versus the Mets. Kazmir has enjoyed particular success in his career against Yoenis Cespedes (0-for-6, five strikeouts) and Asdrubal Cabrera (2-for-17).

WALK-OFFS

1. Cespedes, who homered for the third time in four games Sunday, leads the NL with 30 RBIs.

2. Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is batting .093 with a homer and two RBIs at home (as opposed to .389 with two home runs and 15 RBIs on the road) but is a career .316 hitter against New York.

3. Mets 2B Neil Walker did not start Sunday against the Padres after twice fouling balls off his bruised right shin in recent days but appeared as a pinch hitter. The team has yet to update his status for Monday.

Preview: Blue Jays at Giants

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (16-17) at San Francisco Giants (17-16)
DATE/TIME: Monday, May 09 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After seeing their offense quieted by one National League West opponent, the Toronto Blue Jays will try to get untracked against another team from that division when they open a three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants on Monday. The Blue Jays dropped two of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend, scoring two runs in each of the last two games.

Toronto was held to three runs or fewer for the 15th time, dropping to 2-13 in such games following Sunday's 4-2 setback. Despite the offensive struggles, Kevin Pillar is 7-for-17 with a homer, four doubles and six RBIs during a four-game hitting streak. San Francisco's bats also were muted over the weekend, squeezing out a 2-1 win in 13 innings on Saturday before dropping a 2-0 decision the following day in a four-game split against visiting Colorado. Hunter Pence went 6-for-12 with a pair of three-hit performances versus the Rockies.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), CSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (2-1, 2.82 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jake Peavy (1-3, 9.00)

Sanchez worked seven innings for the fourth time in six starts last time out against Texas, giving up three runs and seven hits in a no-decision. That followed a superb performance in his previous turn at Tampa Bay, when he earned the victory by blanking the Rays on six hits over seven frames. The 23-year-old Californian never has faced San Francisco, but he has been sensational on the road with a 2-0 record and microscopic 0.86 ERA in three starts.

Peavy was hammered for the second straight start as he surrendered four home runs and was raked for seven runs on eight hits over six innings in a loss at Cincinnati. The 34-year-old veteran lasted two-plus frames in his previous start and was pounded for six runs on four hits and a season-high five walks in a 13-1 loss to the New York Mets. Troy Tulowitzki is 7-for-22 lifetime against Peavy, who has a 3-2 record and 3.64 ERA in eight starts versus Toronto.

WALK-OFFS

1. Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson, the reigning American League MVP, is mired in a 2-for-27 slump.

2. Giants 1B Brandon Belt is riding a seven-game hitting streak and has reached base in 16 straight contests.

3. Toronto's bullpen has five blown saves in 13 chances and a major league-leading 10 losses.
