(507) DENVER NUGGETS at (508) TORONTO RAPTORS
Take: (508) TORONTO RAPTORS -9 (approximate number, as this is mostly unlined as I’m posting)
I’m not much of a volume player in the NBA. My preference is to zero in on a handful of situational spots and I’m generally looking to play on better teams in what I believe are advantageous scheduling instances. That’s the case tonight as Toronto plays host to Denver.
It’s the second of back to back games for the Nuggets. They’ve had some problems in this scenario in the past, although they’ve covered twice in three tries this season. But there were some mitigating circumstances in one of those wins, and tonight’s game looks to me to be a tough spot for Denver even without the lack of rest factor.
The Raptors have turned into a team that can be pretty tough when coming off a bad game. Toronto has become a bit of a pointspread beast playing off a loss. In their last 30 games in this situation, the Raptors are a robust 21-7-2 vs. the line. Good teams are frequently solid bets when having absorbed a defeat in the prior outing, and at least for the time being, Toronto qualifies on that count.
From a numbers standpoint, I have Toronto -5.6 against the Nuggets on a neutral court. Factor in the home court advantage and the isolated situations of no rest for Denver and off a loss for the Raptors, and I believe anything less than double digits is definitely playable. Toronto is still without DeMar DeRozan, and his presence has been missed. But the prime motivator for me tonight is what amounts to the angle combo, and I’m backing the Raptors as home chalk.
