Camacho ought to be able to get this gelding to break out quickly here. Is worth careful consideration and may be a wager - strong Equibase Speed Figures (82 average) at today's distance and surface lately. CHANAC - In this field, this horse is at the top in earnings per start in longer quarter horse races. Always seems to be close up at the finish line. EYES MOVIN - Has a very solid shot in this event if you like back class. Has put up solid speed figs in longer quarter horse races in the past.

Last raced at Los Alamitos (Thoroughbre in a race with a class figure of 79. Dropping significantly in class rating this time out puts him in a solid position today. DISCREET PRINCE - This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's clash is a shorter trip and should increase his winning probability. Not much speed in this race other than this racer. Three consecutive improved Equibase speed figs (44-61-66) make this thoroughbred a strong contender. Taking a drop in Equibase class figure points from his September 5th race at Canterbury Park. Based on that valuable data, I will give this animal the advantage. SINDYS LUCK - Looking at today's class figure, this campaigner is meeting an easier field than last time around the track at Los Alamitos (Thoroughbre. He has the highest earnings per start. PURE SPRING - Pennington and Coletti partnered with one another are a handicapper's friend. We have lots of early speed with this horse. He could wire this field. Very often a thoroughbred who worked from the gate since his last race, and adds blinkers for today's race, shows a big improvement in performance. Dropping in class rating points from his Sep 28th race at Parx Racing. Based on that valuable data, I will give this thoroughbred the advantage. This animal earns a lot of cash per start. At the top in this contest.

DROSSELMAGIC - This horse didn't go to the lead and didn't close down the stretch last time he ran. No good results for this less than sharp equine in a sprint event over the last sixty days tells me that this gelding is in a formidable spot

Monday's six-pack

-- Tom Brady has won 16 NFL games while throwing 50+ passes; next-highest in NFL history are several guys, who each won five such games.

-- Pat Haden makes $2.5M a year as USC's AD; apparently he also makes another half million or so as a member of six corporate/non-profit boards. Must be nice.

-- They made another Rocky movie, this one with Apollo Creed's son boxing. Oy.

-- Ryan Tannehill now holds the NFL record with 25 consecutive completions; I'm surprised the number is that low for an all-time record.

-- Danny Woodhead caught seven passes on one drive Sunday, the most by any player since Troy Brown caught seven passes on one drive in a 2002 game.

-- Some good news: Craig Sager will be back working NBA games on TNT when the season starts this week; he is doing well in his battle with leukemia. Great!!!

COYOTES at MAPLE LEAFS 7:35 PM

The Arizona Coyotes were a consensus choice to be one of the worst teams in the NHL this season. That might well still be the case if and/or when the expected regression kicks in. But at least for the time being, this team is playing some pretty good hockey.

The Maple Leafs are a team in transition. That normally is a diplomatic way of saying they suck, and in fact this Toronto team does indeed suck. But I’ll buy the transition tag, because with the major overhaul upstairs that has taken place, and the outstanding hockey people now running the show, the Leafs actually do finally appear to have a plan in place.

But as for tonight, I’m only concerned with the right now rather than the down the road. And right now, the Coyotes are playing considerably better hockey than are their counterparts from Toronto. Martin Hanzal is off to a terrific start, and two guys not yet old enough to (legally) buy a beer, Max Domi and Anthony Duclair, are looking great in the early going.

This Arizona team seems to be playing with a chip on its shoulder. I’m sure they’re all familiar with the pre-season projections by almost everyone and they’re playing as though they’re determined to prove everyone wrong. So far, so good. If the fall back to earth and the back end of the standings takes place, so be it. But for the time being, this team is paying off its backers.

Call this a current form play. By the end of the season, I expect Toronto to make some real progress and I doubt we’ll be seeing Arizona playing meaningful games. But on the 26th of October, I’ll cast my lot with the surprising Coyotes to snare another win at the expense of the Maple Leafs.

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Monday, October 26, 2015 is in the NHL contest between the Arizona Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Coyotes came close to leaving Arizona in the off season and so far it looks good that they are still around. The Coyotes are in second place in the Pacific division of the Western Conference with nine points. Arizona is 9th in goals scored (2.9 per game) but their power play is lacking some punch, as it's rated 28th in the league. Toronto has won just once this season and will try to snap its three-game losing streak. The Leafs have two OT losses which brings them to four total points and tied for last in the Atlantic division. The issue I have with Arizona here is the five game road swing they are on. They were 0-3-1 during this trip until they won last time out at Ottawa. The Leafs return home for their first game since Oct 10th. Toronto also lacks punch on its power play, connecting on just two of 21 attempts. Coyotes are the slightly better team right now, but this long road trip will definitely take its toll. Meanwhile, the Leafs finally get back home where they should pick up a win tonight. Your Bonus Play is on the Maple Leafs.
