Watched a bunch of games last week so I'll offer some of my thoughts.
Only saw the ending of the Wed. game b/w NE & KC. I did not see any of the LA/TFC match or Dallas/NY.
NE seem bolstered by the two Gambian additions. Along w/ Castro the newcomers have compensated for the loss of players to inj. and transf. But they couldn't get it going v. the Rapids. I wasn't concentrating as much on this match but it seemed rather listless on both sides. Coundoul looked good in-goal.
Listless also describes the KC/Houston game. Not many quality chances for either team. Wizards looked at times like they were building towards something only to have their attack break down. It didn't help that Marinelli pulled up lame and had to be subbed out midway thru the 1st. Sealy had some opportunities but he was off his game and never really was in a position to threaten to score.
San Jose looked much better in their home opener. McAfee is a lousy venue - Santa Clara's cozier stadium will be their other home. Really outplayed the Fire, as did RSL, and Salinas missed a sure goal late that would've equalized. The preseason concerns settled on their attack and it has borne out so far. Fire scored like in the 18" and had maybe two more quality chances thereafter.
Chivas was in a wild game w/ Columbus. After overcoming a 3-1 2H deficit and drawing even, Guzan allows a cheap goal at around the 82" mark and then two players get ejected. Mendoza for a 2nd yellow and Kljestan was shown the red when he fouled, I think, Schelotto...thought it was a nice acting job. Chivas central def. is shaky but they prob. deserved a result.
DCU has had problems recently in Salt Lake City and they looked flat. It was a tough sched. situation for them. RSL took it to them the entire match. United's def. was porous, not helping backup GK Cravalho. DC, with all the new blood this season, may take some time to get in-synch - they've been rather erratic so far. RSL was aggressive and pressured all night long...they will score a lot more this season. This was the most dominant performance of the week.
On to week 4. :toast:
