Houston Dynamo vs NY Red Bulls
Lineups:
- Let's start with injuries/suspensions where Houston have none and the Red Bulls not only continue missing their excellent keeper, top holding midfielder, and #1 central defender but may be without central defender Diego Jimenez, who is nursing a knee injury. If that happens NYRB are in huge trouble with basically a reserve central defense and then having to move players all over the pitch. They've yet to find a player able to join Juan Pablo Angel up front and it's your guess who Osorio chooses to put up front today (magee? woly? kandji?). Houston with best XI and since they're also the deepest team in the league (reserves won the MLS reserve title) they can sub freely.
Playoff experience:
- Of course the Dynamo are two-time MLS defending champs and have never lost at Robertson Stadium in postseason play, 4-0-0 11/2. In the 2008 regular season they lost at home just once, while the Red Bulls had one road win all season. The Red Bulls have gone sixplayoff games without a victory, now winning a game since 2005. Away from home they've not won since 2000, 0-3-6, and are 1-3-9 all-time away from home in the playoffs. Since forming in 2006 the Dynamo are 5-1-2 in the playoffs scoring nearly 2gpg while allowing only .88 gpg which is both the highest scoring offense and best defense in MLS history. 5 starters for NY in leg 1 made their M LS playoff debut so this will be their first playoff taste on the road
Form and home/away:
The Dynamo a West best 10-4-1 at home with league best 30-14 goal differential
NYRB won just one road game this year, the fewest in the league, with a -16 goal differential
Dynamo are unbeated in 10 league matches while NY have won just once in 7 matches, 1-2-4, allowing 21 goals in those 7 games. In Dynamo's 10 game unbeaten streak they've never allowed more than one goal.
Everything is in order for a big play here. The only items keeping this from a max bet are the ref, Toledo, enjoys being the center of attention and the Houston Cougars just played a football game here last night which brings into question the state of the pitch. Other than ref and pitch condition everything points to an easy Dynamo victory. Unless a major linemaker error occurs in the semis or finals this will be the last large play of the year in MLS.
