How can San Diego be getting only +5.5 when they have a horrible coach, bad offensive line, horrible QB, young+inexperienced defense, no real homefield advantage, fighting amongst teammates, players who don't care etc etc etc
San Diego is over-matched in every area. Also, Marty Schottenheimer is too senile to bench Brees for Flutie. Marty loves to stick to ineffective gameplans to the bitter end. The dumbest coach in the NFL by a mile

Please accept my apologies for being so repetitive in my Charger posts. Maybe I should just cute+paste this and repost it every week. It will save me a little time and all i have to do is change the names of the teams.

Have you watched Minnesota the last two weeks? They are the product of a favorable shedule. Look for LT to have a huge game here, the Packers exposed the Vikes LB's last week. Word is Flutie will be starting this week as well. Not that Flutie is Steve McNair like or anything, but he is a good game manager and he makes everyone around him play better because they love playing for him. I already played Chargers +6.

if you look back at box scores it goes back more than the last 2 weeks, the vikes like to lay down in the second half.
red mcombs fvcked this ship up with his big mouth.
that first loss to the giants just might have started a tailspin similar to last year.

GAME.

Don't know what your line of thinking is here, but if the Vikes were at home it would be -11.5...would that make you feel better about the line. I will admit that home field means more in Minny than SD but it is more than just the crowd, it is about not having to travel and playing in familiar surroundings among other things.

I even out guessed the pack here... minnesota goes to sand diego and crushes the san diego secondary moss goes 200 yards with 4 tds.......

So far the Chargers have lost every game in familiar surroundings.

lostucanes you are 1000% correct. I will lose my money with you if we go down here. the line is wrong considering a large disparity between these two teams and i see Minni winning by 14 without a problem. Minni may have looked poor against Green Bay, but not in the vicinity of how bad san diego looked against Chi. San diego is really a pathetic team, and I am a SD fan.

The Vikings Defense is horrible. They give up 4.9 yards per carry. How is Minny going to stop Tomlinson. SD averages 5 YPC. Looks to be a close game. According to Sagarin Minnesota has played the 29th best schedule while SD has played the 15th.

Just my 2 cents.

I hate the damn Vikings, but can't see how the Chargers stay with them this week. True the Giants and Packers ran over them, but the Packers were in a desperate situation and Favre was at quarterback. San Diego has no passing game and Minnesota has to address its run defense at some point. Meanwhile, Michael Bennett has another week of practice and adds another dimension to the offense. I hope San Diego beats them, but my wallet will be on Minnesota to beat them by at least a touchdown.

chargers score what 7 points avg?
vikes score 28 avg?
21 point advantage okay give 3 for home field so the vikes win by 24... I know they are playing in san diego but this time of year where you think all the smart minnesota peeps are staying......I will be at the game 8th row field level standing behind moss and culpepper cheering them on.......

CEDAR-immediately following the home loss to the giants he went into the dressing room and verbally lambasted every man to the tee and said,"the game was a total humiliation to the ownership, fans and the city."

the vikes came out flying and they have shored up a lot of aspects of their game no doubt but they are streaky, they lack a lot of heart ( favre had more heart in that broken thumb than this entire vikes squad) and they are 9-15-2 ATS as a road fave .the only thing that makes this a tough pick is that the pack need to win was a seperate one in the last game but i don't see the vikes blowing away the chargers.

flutie is starting and that alone elevates the play of this team;tomlinson will get his yards...say 140 vs. this soft gut of a vikes run defense..unfortunately bennett will be returning in the backfield for the vikes.i say vikes win this by 4-6 placing it precariously close to the line.(esp. if moss trips on a tarp machine pre-game.)

we'll watch and see.good capping to all this week.

vikings -5 live line 3 units
SD +6 parlay over 1 unit

If chargers win it will be a shoot out for sure.. if vikes win it will be by 17 outright..

Regardless who starts at quarterback, there is no way the Vikings don't blow out the Chargers. There should be even more incentive to end a 2 game losing streak. Marty should get fired after this year for such a poor effort on the field.

My prediction is Minnesota will score many points early, and thus, taking SD's running game out of the picture. Hopefully, Schottenheimer keeps Drew Brees in the game so we can get some nice picks and great field position for more easy points.

This # is simply too low. San Diego may pull this out of their ass. But in 7 out of 10 scenarios minni gets the cover here. Do you want to hope that you are lucky enough to predict that this week will be that 3 out of 10? Go ahead. I think that even if San diego covers that it is not a great play.

Flutie to start for Chargers against Vikings

By BERNIE WILSON, AP Sports Writer
November 7, 2003
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Now Doug Flutie gets to see what he can do for a whole game.

Still energetic at 41, and in his 19th season in pro football, Flutie will start at quarterback for the punchless San Diego Chargers at home Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, replacing the ineffective Drew Brees.

Flutie replaced Brees in the fourth quarter at Chicago on Sunday and led the Chargers (1-7) on their only scoring drive in an otherwise dismal 20-7 loss.

Afterward, Chargers defensive end Marcellus Wiley said it was time for the Chargers to go with Flutie.

Five days later, coach Marty Schottenheimer made the anticlimactic announcement. Flutie took the majority of snaps during the week, but Schottenheimer held off announcing the change until Friday, hoping to keep the Vikings guessing as long as possible whether they'd face the scrambling Flutie or Brees, a pocket passer.

``I'm pretty excited about it,'' said Flutie, who's backed up Brees the last 1 1/2 seasons. ``I'm looking forward to getting on the field and trying to put the ball in the end zone, see if we can score some points.''

That'd be a radical change for the Chargers, who've lost 14 of their last 17 games and are one loss shy of clinching an eighth straight non-winning season.

Brees, 9-15 in his 1 1/2 seasons as the starter, threw five interceptions and no touchdown passes in the last three games.

Flutie hasn't started since 2001, when he was the first-stringer all season and the Chargers were 5-11, losing their last nine games.

``I've said it before, the most popular guy on the team is the backup quarterback because if you are losing, that's the answer to everything, that's the answer to all the ills, one guy,'' Flutie said. ``Yeah, put the other guy in and like I said, if we go out and get beat again, they will be calling for Cleo to get in there.''

He was referring to Cleo Lemon, the Chargers' practice squad QB. The Chargers don't have a third-string QB.

``There's not always a quick fix, but hopefully a change at the quarterback position can maybe re-instill some confidence in the other guys and get them to play well, as well,'' Flutie said.

The 5-foot-10 Flutie isn't sure whether it's his mannerism, body language or the way he operates in the huddle that gave the Chargers a spark last Sunday.

``What I do know is I welcome the opportunity and I'm excited about playing and I feel athletically, arm-strength wise, just like I have for the last 10-15 years,'' he said.

``I feel like I can still run and move and do all the things that I like to do and play the game I like to play it. So, when I step on the field, I step out there with confidence.''

Said Brees: ``Of course I'm angry, of course I'm disappointed.

``I was actually leaning toward thinking I was going to get the start. But a decision has been made and I support Doug 100 percent. I just want us to win.''

As disappointed as he is in losing his job, Brees said he was ``probably more disappointed in the fact that it even got to this point. But you just got to turn it into a positive and hopefully look back on this day and say it made me a better person and better player.''

Flutie and Brees get along well off the field. That wasn't the case when Flutie and Rob Johnson were involved in a divisive QB controversy with the Buffalo Bills.

``Here, it's a little different because Drew is still young, Drew is still seen as the future of this franchise and it's more looked at as a short-termed thing in my mind,'' Flutie said.

``I think the bottom line is we have to find a way to win a football game and that will help a lot of things around here.''

Schottenheimer said Flutie will play the whole game, barring injury.

He made the change because of Brees' poor passing accuracy ``and Doug Flutie brings a different style of play as was evident the other day,'' Schottenheimer said. ``The ability to run around and make plays on your own, improvise.''
