Hall of Fame NFL coach Mike Ditka said athletes who kneel during the national anthem should “get the hell out of the country.”

After strongly criticizing former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and others for starting the solidarity movement with Black Lives Matter back in 2016, the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd hasn’t changed Ditka’s outlook.

“If you can’t respect our national anthem, get the hell out of the country,” Ditka said during an interview with TMZ on Sunday.

“That’s the way I feel. Of course, I’m old fashioned,” the former broadcaster went on. “So, I’m only going to say what I feel … You don’t protest against the flag, and you don’t protest against this country who’s given you the opportunities to make a living playing a sport that you never thought would happen. So, I don’t want to hear all the crap.”

Floyd’s death on Memorial Day has sparked massive protests in cities across the country that have carried on through the summer.

As sports like the MLB and NBA return during the coronavirus pandemic, both leagues have granted players the opportunity to voice their support of the BLM movement through their uniforms and other apparel worn during warm-ups.

At the MLB’s Opening Day earlier this week, the entire rosters of the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees knelt for a minute while they clutched a single, long black cloth that stretched behind the foul lines. The teams did then rise for the anthem.

When the NFL does return, stars like Adrian Peterson said they will “without a doubt” kneel during the anthem.

President Trump, another major critic of athletes who knelt back in 2016, said last week that he hope[d] to see all professional athletes standing for the anthem this year.

“There are plenty of places you can protest,” he said during an appearance on Fox News at the time. “You don’t have to protest on the raising of our flag.”

I don't do social media, so I wouldn't know. But I assume the Mob is attacking him as being a racist for his views?

His next door neighbor was a retired GB Packer, Dick Grogg

And the next door over had a (then) five year old named Lee Johnson who would grow up to be an NFL punter for over a decade

I never thought I'd live during a time when a full roster of athletes kneel or walk off the field/court during the playing of the National Anthem.

I think these young people are going to look back 30 years from now and be very embarrassed.

I would gladly be in the minority to stand.

Iron Mike actually accomplished something in life, a very long and successful career

I wonder what black athletes lives would be like if their ancestors were never brought to this country? If their ancestors were actually slaves, many were not

Would their lives be better or worse? For those NOT playing with a full deck or maybe killed off a little or what you were born with, THAT'S A RHETORICAL QUESTION

Now I'm not talking about 1860, none of us were alive (yes, that actually has to be pointed out around here). I'm not talking about 1960, a few of us were babies, I'M TALKING ABOUT 2020.

Would their lives be better or worse if African tribes didn't sell their enemies to slave traders?

The beauty of this country? You can choose to live anywhere you want. If you have 10's of millions of dollars, that's easy. You just don't have the freedom to riot, loot, destroy your neighbors' property and kill people. But you can live anywhere you want.

If I ever believe I'm victimized by systemic racism and oppression, I'm outta here.

“If you can’t respect our national anthem, get the hell out of the country,” Ditka said during an interview with TMZ on Sunday.

This is 100% correct. This is also why it so important that countries accept any and all foreigners who have political dissent with their home country. Because if countries in this world didn't do that, then it would be impossible for people who can't respect the national anthem to get out.

“There are plenty of places you can protest,” he said during an appearance on Fox News at the time. “You don’t have to protest on the raising of our flag.”

This is also completely true. There are definitely lots of places anyone can protest. But when the flag is being raised, it is not the time to protest against something, like ending violence. When the flag is being raised, it is the time to be for something, such as world peace.

Canada has our own version of Ditka.
Don Cherry was fired from Hockey Night in Canada for saying "you people come to this country and don't even wear poppies to support our Veterans..."
He was referring to people not caring about Remembrance Day (USA version of Memorial Day?). Respecting those that have fought and died for our freedoms.

Always loved Cherry. He and Ditka are a dieing breed.
