unreal weekend...put it behind me and move ahead now

28-24 +7.45
211.25 out - 218.70 in (3.5%)

Botafogo vs Parana - Brazil - Parana lost to Juventude yesterday but was not a huge upset since they were without key players Beto, Emerson, and Leonardo. Only surprise was how badly they played...really outplayed by a mediocre Botafogo team. My thought was that it was the natural letdown from the big midweek match in Sao Paulo which saw the home side steal all 3 points late in the match to overturn Parana's 2-1 lead. But now things should be settled down except they just announced a Portuguese team has bought both Gustavo and Angelo...both important defenders and certainly key members. Parana at least forunate that the next opponent is not a strong offensive club. In fact Bota's 3 goal output yesterday was just their 2nd match in 8 which had them score multiple goals. Parana strong away, scoring in 7 straight games and have only lost to upper-table clubs on the road, and Bota are a team that will fight against relegation the rest of the way. To their credit, Botafogo have just 2 losses in 11 but have drawn 6. I think a draw is a likely result here as well but I know for sure the better players are on the away team so getting a quarter goal is attractive. Parana +1/4 goal 5/10 @1.75 (pinn)

Juventude vs Flamengo - Brazil - the way totals have been going I really should leave this alone but much too good of an offer IMO. These are the two weakest offensive teams in Brazil and both have excellent defenses. Flamengo's attackers are completely inept despite being "big name" players and Juventude sold their main attackers (Eder Ceccon and Felipe) to Koniasten and Levante. Juventude with 7 straight games not scoring more than 1 goal and have allowed more than 1 goal just once in the same span. Same stuff at Flamengo...Flam with just one multiple goal game in last 10 (the game I bet the under of course) and have allowed more than one goal just once in last 7 (Sao Cae match again). Juventude/Flamengo under 2.5 goals 5/10 @2.03 (Pinn)

Palmeiras vs Figueirense - Brazil - Palmeiras' form has slipped a touch with recent draws to Ponte Preta and Juventude but they are a very strong club right now unbeaten in 10 games since the World Cup. Figueira have really surprised me with good offensive football but their away play is still poor. They've lost 4 of their last 5 trips including a 3-1 loss at Vasco, 1-0 at Juventude, and 3-0 at Ponte Preta and Palmeiras are better than all those teams. They did nearly escape Sao Paulo with a point only to lose 2-1 in final moments so they can produce a result here and there. They will miss their best player, Cicero, who is suspended. Cicero leads the league in goals scored (Figueira actually have 3 of top 7 scorers) so a big miss for sure. Palmeiras with a key missing in Paulo Baier though his backup, Amaral, is more than capable. Again, Marcos misses in goal...should be back this weekend. Verdao have been super at the Palestra with 4-1-0 13/5 since the break and I have them winning this one. Palmeiras 4/10 @ 1.825 (pinn)

Atlante vs Tigres - Mexico - a couple of reasons for this bet. First, as you'll notice in my season preview, I rate Atlante higher. I am surprised they are struggling so much still on offense (4 goals in 4 games) with Galaz and Biscayzacu but they did win both home matches thus far and lost on a heartbreaking 92nd minute goal at Cruz Azul...so I'd saying they're playing pretty well. Tigres have not impressed me. A very late win at home against winless Tecos and a well deserved loss in San Luis does not give me great confidence in their squad. They have three very important missing players this week with midfielder Tomas Campos suspended, striker Rolando Zarate injured, and their best player Walter Gaitan missing due to suspension. They will probably adopt a very defensive stance so I don't expect many goals in this one but Atlante are pretty clear favorite for me. H2H is very close with 4-2-4 in last 10 and almost all matches finishing 2-0 or 2-1 so a tight contest is the norm. Atlante with no injuries or suspensions and while their weakness is midfield the losses of Campos and Gaitan even give Atlante the edge there. No doubt Atlante possess the better defense and attacking pair too. Atlante -1/2 goal 4.5/10 @2.10

That is how I feel right now after my 0-2 evening in Brazil Soccer.
