I admit I read the question wrong...i thought we were implying who was a better or more significant athlete (in their sport).
"Famous" is merely a popularity contest. I think someone mentioned this already but although I still believe Tiger is in a far higher class, I have a strong suspicion that once Tiger is long gone, golf's popularity will fade away to what it was pre-Tiger. (The Jack and Arnold days were good, but it did not come close to the popularity of Jordan, Magic, and Bird)
For this reason, Jordan will probably always be mentioned on TV, for highlights, for statistical comparissons, etc....and I have to admit I think Jordan will be the more famous/popular athlete.
OP question is really asking "when Tiger Woods is retired, which will be the more famous sport....golf or basketball?"...answer is obv basketball
If for some reason Golf remains high-interest (as in the Tiger days), then I have no doubt Tiger will be leaps and bounds beyond what Jordan is 50 years from now.

Tiger Woods' newfound willpower will be put to the ultimate test when he tries to tee up at the Masters next week -- because the ladies of Hooters will be holding a bikini competition right down the street.
The Hooters in Augusta -- literally seconds from where Tiger will be smacking his balls around -- will throw a week-long, golf-themed celebration ... which includes competitions custom-made for Woods.
Among the activities -- a putting competition and a long drive contest ... a "Par 3" bikini contest.
Sounds great but we're guessing if Tiger's in the mood for chicken wings, he better pray they're on the room service menu.

SO THEY MUST KNOW WHO THE F@%K HE IS THEY GO OUT AND BUY HIS SHOES.
