I been told Shaq tipped one guy at a restraunt here in Houston $400 and the next night he left another waiter $5. I know Barkley is a good tipper date a girl that danced for him and she came home with a wad of dough that night.

20% would even work, no excuse for a rich jock, too stiff the waitstaff !

I'd probably tip like 50% standard, more as called for, if I were one of these guys.

My experience was 100$ tip on a 4000k bill. We kept 2 servers to take care of his party of 6 till 4am. We sent out 2 bottles Tattinger free to start, 600 each, since the idiots could not even think of a drink to order or even take a minute to look over the wine list. They ordered caviar and when it came they were like thats it?? for 500$?? So we sent out double for free. We comped 6 desserts and at least 10 expensive cordials. I felt horrible for the servers but I couldn't do shit but just smile. It was very disturbing and we made a point to give great service and also show what was being comped. As far as the official view, the Four seasons was thrilled to have Mj.

Never expected more that 20% but with all the comps most people would leave more like 30% in this case and not stay till 4 am

Hate to beat a dead horse but in this case the servers lost money. At Four Seasons they tip out automatically to bussers runners wine stewards and mangers at percentages off the sales assuming 15% tips average. So even the 100 was way negative. Also, typically a vip is supposed to tip the maitre D for getting everyone to drop everything and getting the best table and service for the vip. That was me.

Granted the servers actually get 18 to 21 % per year so unless jordan comes in often they are okay.

Half the tab as a tip, seems about called for ( in this case), not much at all to the celeb....not life changing to the waitstaff. but if you're extending hours... ? for the celeb, they should tip decent, make it worthwhile to the people involved.

I kind of know to tip about 18%, to be welcome again, I'm usually around 16-17%, round it to nearest dollar...more on a smaller check ( like breakfast), or a beer at a bar ($1).

I tip averagely, no way I'd stiff if the NBA signed me.

I don't think the celeb should be viewed as a cash cow, either !

If I'm Charlie Sheen, or somebody....take some girl to lunch, run up a $500 tab with wine and stuff, leave the waitstaff $100 for a tip....I'm not a bad guy....don't need to tip you $500. $150 or $200 is getting excessive. $100 is still decent.

You would be shocked about how you are perceived if you go anywhere regularly. Start at 18% and round up. really 20% and round up at the places you go enough where they know who you are. And never run some one around for less than 2$. Examlpe, bill for lunch with good prompt service is 32.30. Good tip is 6.46. You got 40$. don't wave your check around for change!! It really makes a difference that you will never see. Any new place and the like do as you wish but think 15% for average yes average service. We have so many regulars that may split an entree or not drink so they are already below the average then they throw in 15% while calling you by name and asking about your life and fuck, gotta hate them. Anyway, don't bite the hand that feeds you. I must forget this, I want to go pro to get out of this stupid bissiness!!

That's good; its a bit different at the expensive places with the tip out to everyone under the sun. If your tab is 50% expensive wine then its still good at 17% or so too. However if you only spend 20$ at mexicali then a regular 25% tip or more will get you great service once they relize especaily cash and may start getting you a free carona and bj too.

One nice thing if I go pro then broke, my buddy runs Michael Mina's at the Bellagio/ instant 70k a year job..

Tipping is out of control !

What If I'm some high profile MLB player, like say A-Rod, as A - Rod, I take some rookie out to lunch, we somehow run up $50 for Lunch, As A-Rod, I leave $70 total, a 40% tip... am I turd for tipping 40 % ?

that's a great tip and you won't have to worry about anything bad being said about you.Jordan's a bum....marriage was a sham, his wife had a boyfriend the last few years of their marriage. Disgusting that people can have so much wealth and can be so cheap. Tiger Woods is right up there with him. FWIW I've heard Jordan's sons do know how to tip.

speaking of bum tippers......

you guys have never seen cheap like you see in the poker world. it always makes me laugh when people see some of these poker celebs on TV and think they are throwing around cash like its monopoly.

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson has been known to walk the tournament floor and preach to others about how they shouldn't toke.

Dealers in Costa Rica don't even like to throw cards to Humberto Brenes (any of the Brenes brothers for that matter) as they have stiffed so many tournament staff.

I could go on for days about the poker crowd. Don't even get me started on bar and dining experiences.

I'm not sure where you are coming from. We are talking about like 1-5% tips and turds. Never said anything like 40% is not enough..
