Hello Matt,

I think many of us here are fascinated with how you are able to consistenly win.
If you don't mind I think it'd be good for the poker forum if you could answer a few questions?? If you have no interest in doing this that's fine I just thought I'd ask because I am trying to go pro-poker online.

Q: When did you start?

Q: How many hours a day do you do this?

Q: How many tables a day do you play?

Q: Do you use more than 1 poker room/service at 1 time? Also, please tell which sites you like to play at. I remember you saying something about rakeback. (i.e. party and bodog running at same time)

Q: How much of a bankroll do you suggest people have to start to be able to do this and handle the swings? Let's say 50k a year. (I think this is a very important question because I'd say a LARGE percentage of people who play online poker make 1 quick stab at it and dont leave themselves with money left for tomorrow if they loose that night)

Q: How much are you currently making and what stakes are you playing at?

Q: What is your style of play? (super tight, tight, normal) do you only play premium hands?

Q: What is the best word of advice you can tell someone trying to do exactly what you are doing currently?

Playing poker professionally online is really one of those professions that everyone wants to do it's just not to many people have the disclipline or drive to actually do what you do everyday. I take it he uses spreadsheets/multiple monitors/ constant bankroll management.
I for one am in awe that matt thinks he'll clear 100k EASILY this year.

Thanks for your time and good luck!

Q: When did you start?

I went fulltime September 1st 2004

Q: How many hours a day do you do this?

8-10. My week is basically a Sunday-Thursday, but I also get hours in on Friday and Saturday too sometimes, just depends

Q: How many tables a day do you play?

I play 8-10 games at a time

Q: Do you use more than 1 poker room/service at 1 time? Also, please tell which sites you like to play at. I remember you saying something about rakeback. (i.e. party and bodog running at same time)

I use Eurobet and Empire as my Party games, I also play the Party Supers, play some Full Tilt tourneys, and also play at another site I can't mention.

If you plan on starting at 2-4 limit example, you should have around 2k in your bankroll. You should have 500 Big Bets to move up a limit if you are going to do it for a living.

Q: How much are you currently making and what stakes are you playing at?

I had been playing mainly 3-6 since like October with some15-30 thrown in lately and 5-10/20-40 at a smaller site. Now I have moved to mainly 5-10 as my main party game, so my rakeback should be almost twice as high this month. Averaged $75 per hour last 2 months since adding my 4th monitor(Internet play only, not counting WPC event), I hope for this to go up this month with the move to 5-10.

Q: What is your style of play? (super tight, tight, normal) do you only play premium hands?

Tight, just depends on many many things though

Q: What is the best word of advice you can tell someone trying to do exactly what you are doing currently?

You must get your hours in and I'm not sure how to fight against burnout, take breaks every few hours, go outside. I havent had a problem with burnout yet though many have. I sit here and watch TV while I play, talk to friends on aol, surf the web, if I could figure out how to play PS2 while I played, I would be set up, but I dont see that happeneing.
So you need massive amounts of discipline and a drive to suceed. You really have to want to go that extra step and keep making more.

I have now changed my goals after the last couple months and I'm hoping to hit 150k now this year

Thanks for your time and good luck!

good stuff Matt S.
Not many have the discipline to succeed as a professional gambler and I stress that DISCIPLINE is the number one requirement for success.

Wondering if you are coming back to town for the WPT at Mirage or the WSOP?
We are having a $500 buy-on tourney you may be interested in as well between the two.

I was thinking about playing in the 1k Mirage event today, but caesars indiana had a 1k event on Tuesday called the Derby Clash so I played that instead. The WSOP event I am thinking of playing right now in the June 22nd $1500 NLHE event. Who is the we you are referring to?

Matt,
Do you play any no-limit or do you stay strictly to limit?

I'm getting setup to start this next week.
What do you think of pokerstars?

Thanks in advance

Pokerstars has no rakeback therefore it is of no use to me. I play some tourneys there every once in a while, thats it. It is a nice site though w/ excellent CS.

I play limit ring games and no limit tourneys
