"Mannys playoff history he has been an underachiever":lolBIG:

manny ramirez has the most hrs (26) in the post season. more than any baseball player EVER!!!

the reason i started this thread was because i believed manny wasnt getting his due and these posts confirms it

manny is manny. his childlike, goofy personality overshadows his greatness. he enjoys being the badguy and troublemaker. he loved every year bringing up the trade rumours in boston. he is so odd i actually believe he doesnt really care about his defensive game and his running. he wants people to talk shit about it. he strifes in that position again and again. he believes his attributes is his hitting and thats that.

manny being manny

did somebody actually post above that he hits only when no one is on base

his 165 rbis in 1 season is still the major league record:nohead:

Hack Wilson has the record at 191.....

Having said that, MANNY is a great clutch hitter.........no way you would rather have AROD up over MANNY.

There is probably not a manager in baseball that would choose AROD over MANNY in a clutch situation......ESPECIALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS.

A-Rod is every bit the power hitter as Manny, but the difference is A-Rod plays gold glove caliber defense, and steals you over 20 bases a season.

Manny is death defensivly and has cement legs on the bases.

I do agree AROD is a better overall player than Manny.............however, is not a better overall HITTER than MANNY.

I disagree with your assessment alos on Mannys defense and speed on the bases ..........Manny has turned himself to an average defensive player in LF............and I would rate his speed above average on the bases and is faster than most people give him credit for.

Actually given all the intangibles, Manny be about the best player in the game considering what he provides a team..........not sure if that qualifies as being the best overall player though.

Manny makes teams tremendously better.......in a host of different ways, one of which is simply making the clubhouse and dugout a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

When somebody bats 40 pts less in the playoffs then in the regular season over your career , Is that called overachieving then ??

Im sure if Babe Ruth played in 97 playoff games , he'd had over 40 homers too btw ...

But Babe only played in 41 playoff games and hit 15 homers ...
Manny has 25 in 97 games

Babe hit one in every 2.77 games , Manny 3.88

and as for Mannys 165 Rbis being the best ever ??? Heres the alltime list ..

<table border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="3"><tbody><tr><td align="right">Rank</td><td>Player (age that year)</td><td align="right">RBI</td><td align="right">Year</td><td>Bats</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">1.</td><td>Hack Wilson+ (30)</td><td align="right">191</td><td align="right">1930</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">2.</td><td>Lou Gehrig+* (28)</td><td align="right">184</td><td align="right">1931</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">3.</td><td>Hank Greenberg+ (26)</td><td align="right">183</td><td align="right">1937</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">4.</td><td>Jimmie Foxx+ (30)</td><td align="right">175</td><td align="right">1938</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right"> </td><td>Lou Gehrig+* (24)</td><td align="right">175</td><td align="right">1927</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">6.</td><td>Lou Gehrig+* (27)</td><td align="right">174</td><td align="right">1930</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">7.</td><td>Babe Ruth+* (26)</td><td align="right">171</td><td align="right">1921</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">8.</td><td>Hank Greenberg+ (24)</td><td align="right">170</td><td align="right">1935</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right"> </td><td>Chuck Klein+* (25)</td><td align="right">170</td><td align="right">1930</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">10.</td><td>Jimmie Foxx+ (24)</td><td align="right">169</td><td align="right">1932</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">11.</td><td>Joe DiMaggio+ (22)</td><td align="right">167</td><td align="right">1937</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">12.</td><td>Sam Thompson+* (27)</td><td align="right">166</td><td align="right">1887</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right">13.</td><td>Lou Gehrig+* (31)</td><td align="right">165</td><td align="right">1934</td><td align="right">L</td></tr> <tr><td align="right"> </td><td>Manny Ramirez (27)</td><td align="right">165</td><td align="right">1999</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right"> </td><td>Al Simmons+ (28)</td><td align="right">165</td><td align="right">1930</td><td align="right">R</td></tr> <tr><td align="right"> </td><td>Sam Thompson+* (35)</td><td align="right">165</td><td align="right">1895</td><td align="right">L</td></tr></tbody></table>

where did babe ruth come from:lol:

im taking about present generation:nohead:

babe ruths pitching stats were 94 wins and 46 loss with .228 era,

are you going to state now, if babe ruth was playing last 10 years he would of won 10 mvps and 10 cyoungs:ohno:

-------------------------

again, my major pts was that , when people think of the great players, mannys name is not included in alot of peoples lists. he should be and his career stats, post season stats and repeated clutch hitting is 2nd to none.... i also pointed out alot of his lack of admiration and acknowledgements of his feats is because of his own doing.

i hope the dodgers go deep into the playoffs, because no doubt manny will produce like always unlike arod and bonds(pirates had some great teams)

It's amazing what bias can create.

Look again at A-rod's stats the last 3 post-seasons, and let the
numbers speak for themselves shall we?

Batting Ave: 7/44 = .159
Strikeouts: 15/44 = .341
Extra Base Hits: 2/44
Home Runs: 1/44

So, A-rod in 44 at bats has 5 singles, 1 double and 1 home-run.

And, he has more than twice as many strike-outs as hits.

so take less than half his numbers
the poster said he was never did which was blatently wrong- he has flat out sucked his last 3 post season series-say that dont make shit up
the media does create this crap
pettite is known as a big game pitcher even though he isnt
people said clemens was a choker, but hes better than pettite in the playoffs (hes no schilling in the playoffs but he has been damn good)
lemming dont do research, they just go with whatever they are told

LOL this is a joke thread, right?

Albert Pujols career OPS+ = 170
Manny Ramirez career OPS+ = 155

Add in the fact that Pujols is a better defender and it's not even close.

You realize Manny's a terrible defensive player who can't run a lick, right? Sure, he's a fantastic hitter, but saying he's a better baseball player than A-Rod and/or Pujols is laughable.

Yeah, he's only put up the 8 greatest offensive seasons to start a career of any player in the history of baseball, all while playing Gold Glove-caliber defense.

You're retarded.

Haven't bothered to read this whole thread, but many people very familiar with the Sox will tell you that Yaz was the only left fielder to ever play the Monster better....

Yeah, and in his other 3 post-seasons here is what he did:

1997 ALDS: .313/.313/.563
2000 ALDS: .308/.308/.308
2000 ALCS: .409/.470/.773 (!!)
2004 ALDS: .421/.476/.737
2004 ALCS (the notorious choke series for the Yankees. A-Rod put up VERY solid stats): .258/.378/.516

You want to see bias? Look in the mirror. A-Rod has had just as many bad post-seasons as good ones.

I couldn't disagree more. Manny is out of the best pure hitters I've ever seen, but when all is said and done Bonds, A-Rod and Pujols could go down as the three greatest players of all time. He's not close to A-Rod in my opinion. I hate the Yankees with an absolute passion, but this guy is BY FAR the best player in baseball and has been the best player since Bonds. Bonds imo is probably the best hitter of all time. A-Rod will take that title from him before he retires. Pujols will also give them a run.

Don't forget that Manny sucked complete ass last year. Neither of his playoff HR's meant anything also.
A-Rod and Manny are closer than you think. We'll see what A-Rod is able to do over the next couple of years, but right now history shows Manny has been the better hitter. A-Rod's defense is obviously better, though.

You cannot even put A-Rod in this conversation.

Reggie Jackson was Mr. October, A-Rod is Mr. April. A-Rod gets hits when they are not needed. He has not shown up for a playoff game in his career. He has been to many of them, but he seems to like to watch them from the bench after a strikeout or groundout.
I know somebody already ripped on you for this, but this has to be one of the most idiotic things I have ever read.

I think Boston is doing pretty good without this so called super star. Ask the Boston fans what they think of him when he didn't run out ground balls? I hope it is Boston and the Dodogers in the world series. He better wear his helmet in the outfield. He was cancer and Boston is glad he is long gone.

A sampling of Schilling's comments, via the Providence Journal:
• "I'm totally convinced [Ramirez was going to claim he was injured and] play half the games the rest of the year. And he made it clear he didn't want to play. We've all seen what Manny does when Manny doesn't want to play. "
• "The day he realized that they were not going to sign him to an extension was the day he said, 'Uncle. I'm done.'"
• "Nothing makes a guy that respects the game and respects human beings like Terry Francona feel worse than looking at a guy and saying, 'Go ahead, [mess] with me, [mess] with your teammates, I'll put you in the lineup,' and then turn around to a guy who's there every day early working his [butt] off who gets 110 at-bats a year and saying, 'You know what? Yeah, I can't put you in there tonight,'"
• "There were times when you had players who were on like fire duty, 'Show up tomorrow, I'm not sure if you're playing or not, we've gotta find out what [Manny] wants to do.' That's not fair to anybody."
• "It's the life that we lived every day, and even if we told people the truth

Alot of you rely too heavily on stats to create your opinions. To say Manny bats .274 postseason means nothing and it does not describe his accomplishments. If you saw Manny in the majority of his playoff games you would not be able to deny that he is one of the all time greats in October. He has had more playoff "moments" than any other player out there, but ultimately these type of discussions are always going to be subjective.
