Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes dealing with high ankle sprain after Divisional Round

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in Saturday's Divisional Round victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

What It Means:
Mahomes underwent an MRI this morning to reveal the extent of his injury, and is now reportedly dealing with a high ankle sprain. He has said that he still intends to play in next week's AFC Championship game, but it's unclear as of this writing whether or not he will be physically able to play. The star quarterback was able to return to the field and finished the game despite his injury, but was visibly hobbled.

Mahomes finished yesterday's game without taking a sack, completing 22 of his 30 attempts for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. Chad Henne is currently the backup behind Mahomes, and may be forced to start in the AFC Championship next weekend.

How long does a high ankle sprain take to heal? It might take you six to eight weeks to recover from a high ankle sprain. If you're an athlete, your return to play might take an even longer time. Low ankle sprains generally heal quicker than this.

Treatment
  1. Rest. Avoid activities that cause pain, swelling or discomfort.
  2. Ice. Use an ice pack or ice slush bath immediately for 15 to 20 minutes and repeat every two to three hours while you're awake. ...
  3. Compression. To help stop swelling, compress the ankle with an elastic bandage until the swelling stops. ...
  4. Elevation
Severe high ankle sprains can take up to six months and might require surgery.

If you've experienced a high ankle sprain, you might be able to put weight on your foot and ankle, but you'll probably have pain above your ankle, between your fibula and tibia. You'll likely experience more pain when climbing up or down stairs, or engaging in any activities that cause your ankle bones to flex upward.

He showed he can play with it....

Heard today from a good source. Today he is/will be feeling more of what's involved in this injury so don't get Mahoned with his talk. He will not be as mobile when he plays.

I expect this number move. (Doesn't Vegas usually give the home team a 3 point edge)

Of course I want to see Bengals win. Call it the Superfecta against the Chiefs

I would say that if you still want to get +7.5 in a teaser then hit this sooner than later

high "ankle" sprain involves tearing or straining the ligaments that hold the 2 lower leg bones together. Typical ankle sprains 7-10 days. High ankle sprain can last 3-6 months. I expect Mahomes to be on the field, next Sunday, but really limited.

Eagles v Bengals in sb?

Just Win! Play ML on with spread at or under 5. Final decisions.. Philly/Bengals under/under.

Bengals game started out just as I hoped Sunday. Like to see same again with a little more Perrine. Banking on Philly 1st score on their first possession to take control.

Wildcats win tonight and are at home Saturday playing Kansas coming into Rupp on a 3 game losing streak. Must win tonight!

If you didn't get Cincy +1.5 or +2, better grab them now at -2. In my opinion, this game will go to Cincy -4 or 4.5. I don't see Mahomes playing.

If Mahomes diagnosis is accurate he isn’t gonna be anywhere near 100% if he does play

I think in this game though Chiefs defense is being underrated. They are more of a mismatch than Bills were for Bengals

That Bengal DL will bring the pressure, and it's very possible Mahomes (in the pocket) will get that same ankle twisted a bit. Or he just moves too sharply to the side. And then there is the lack of practice during the week. Henne might be playing quite a bit.

What if it is just a ploy by KC and it isn’t a high ankle sprain…….
