FANTASTIC POST!!WildBill said:My sense is the sharpest bettors, on average, come out of places where there is little or no gambling culture. In those places people that went ahead and did the gambling generally had to have a good reason to do so and talent was part of it. I knew a number of very sharp guys out of Nebraska and Kansas.
Lots of sharps come out of NY/NJ no doubt, but tons of squarest of the squares come out of there too. Just think typical Yankee fan. You know the guy, only a Yankee fan would dare go to a sporting event wearing a wifebeater shirt, with his gold chain on of course. You see him at the game cursing out Jeff Weaver, a beer in one hand and a one-finger salute with the other. This is the guy that thinks he knows everything that ever happens in sports and proceeds to go 40-45% in the NFL each year. He curses at the Jets or Giants because he finds a way to lose every bet on them, believing what the Post writes too much. Ok, maybe a bit stereotypical, but NY/NJ is loaded with guys like this, hardheads that constantly lose, yet don't have the ego to admit they can't beat a game.
