Thanks for the comeback and nice to hear the voice of reason. I thought that must have been some kind of highlight film but I did like what I saw.
I have an opinion that if he can manage the team, minimize mistakes and turnovers, that he showed more potential than I had been led to believe he possessed by the dissenters who had made judgments before seeing the video.
Russ
, in all fairness, you could at least show where anyone said anything negative about his potential before the video. Talk about putting words in people's mouths... you are guilty of that very thing right here. The only thing that was said by anyone before the video was that Scott could not compare to Tuitama, Zona's alltime leading passer who is now gone. So find the quote you are referring to where you were led on or stop the accusations.
It would be wrong to jump to conclusions and your reserve is well understood. You have to realize that I have been saying that Arizona was well under the radar according to what I was reading on here and I got backed into a corner defending them.
I understand that many people remarked the players looked really fit, fitter than years past. Is that accurate? That would indicate players who have bought into a system and could be on a mission. Interested to hear your input on that. Also he looked bigger and stronger than I had in mind based on his roster info? Again, thanks for the comeback and I will be keeping an eye on the CM game just like you.
Reservations well understood? Not when everyone tried pointing out that the scrimmage was an edited PR piece and no one's seen him play vs a real defense. Now a local even points out the very same thing. But everyone else said the same thing too. You replied with insults, denials, explanations -- not one single acknowledgment about the video being a setup. It shows Scott with an 11 for 11 day. What about the other 10 passing plays? How did he look in those?
Nobody but you backed yourself into a corner by making predictions that you have thus far been unable to support with anything but theories impossible to prove and by taking offense to the doubters. The closest thing you have ever said that indicates anything less than a stellar season is that Iowa will be a test. It's the rest of us who have said wait and see (just like Mighty Ginseng) and the rest of us who give them a 7-5 shot at best, assuming nothing more than last season, and for good reasons. I say they will be tested and tested often, even against some teams that have no business being in a game with them. I say it because I've seen it before, and with a better QB and their all-time leading WR playing too.
I have allowed some room for doubt though. I have seen teams with worse QB's than I presume Scott will be in his first year place 3rd in the conference with 2 QB's that threw picks all day long. The reason why was because of a very staunch defense that sometimes outscored its offense. So it's possible but I won't go any farther than that. That was a very rare occurance and the team I am referring to has a very successful DC. But were it not for the fact that I've seen it before as rare as it's been, I'd give them NO chance whatsoever to achieve an 8-4 season.
I am sure even Mighty Ginseng has his doubts about their schedule which is much more difficult than last year's schedule. Your reply to that observation was that the "opposition isn't any different." It seems that there's no such thing as talking sense to you if something that's said challenges your expectations in the least way. I can find a score of such responses, backed into a corner as you put it. I call it healthy debate. You take offense.
I await your (typical) defense. Do you deny what I said is the truth? I will pull up your own quotes to prove everything I said here is true.
