Liberalism is doomed.

The fresh face on the democratic scene is Mr. Obama, a young fruitcake from Kansas. Jesse Jackson is his mentor and he has deemed Obama as a king in the liberal party already.

Then why the hell is he backing down from debating Alan Keyes six times? He initially wanted six debates with his opposition, then when Keyes enters the picture he reluctantly wants only two debates.

Tells me more than enough about the lib's lies not passing the stink test.

Why should he want to debate him more than necessary when he's already got it wrapped up? I'd do the same if I was him. 2 debates is plenty.

But you want to take about lies...how about Keyes' rant in 2000 about the carpetbagging Hillary Clinton and the death of federalism and about how he would never imitate that? Keyes has never lived in Illinois for a day in his life. This is both a lie and utter hypocrisy.

Obama sounded like a breath of fresh air in the midst of the DNC. He actually talked commonm sense.
The question is, was he telling the truth or lying to sound like a moderate.

Bill Clinton talked like a moderate and actually supported some moderate legislation - I think he swerved left when Hillary wanted him to (just as I would if told by my wife).

Right now I see Obama - Keyes as a win win for a moderate agenda at worst.

I like both of them!

Liberalism is doomed in its current form, to veer Socialist or Capitalist, depending on the responses of the 'street.' It might return to its laissez faire roots if the populace begins to see the gov't as oppressive or evil, or will turn into the all-knowing protector from the evils outside of government. The latter is more common these days, here included, although I don't see it happening in the US in the near future, even under the Democrats.

bblight, I hope you didn't just call Alan Keyes a moderate. Keyes is as far to the right as one can get. All he wants to talk about is abortion and gay marriage. The guy is really a fundamentalist nut. Fortunately he cannot win. The only real drama is whether Obama will get more than double the votes that he does.

Back to the debates again, that was 6 debates he had to agreed to with Ryan. And 3 of those debates were to be in August. Well, August is almost halfway thru and Keyes just got into the race. It's just not practical at this point. Besides, it's painfully obvious that Keyes is only running to have a platform to espouse his crap to more people, Illinois or not. Why does he want to debate so much when he could spend the time getting out there meeting Illinois voters. I think I know why. Because he could care less about them, he knows he can't win. He just wants more TV time to make the headlines.

Even though I agree with most of what Keyes espouses, I admit he can't win, and it was a stupid pick by the Illinois Republican party, to pick a carpetbagger who can't win. It only hurts the republican party more in the state.

O.K.
We tried Ryan - that didn't work.
We asked Ditka - all he said is Illinois is not that liberal but no thanks.
Keyes is the man now. Keyes is the last thing Obama wanted to see. ( Jesse Jackson too).

I can assure you Obama is not scared of Keyes. Certainly not in terms of winning. If anyone should be scared of Keyes, it's Republicans of any moderate nature. This Keyes guy is really a true nutcase. Sorry, but I gotta say it. Today he called Obama's position on abortion "the slaveholder's position". I don't care what color he is, that is truly and deeply insulting to those who were slaves and to their descendants. All he can talk about is abortion and gay marriage. He doesn't seem to get it -- THAT'S NOT WHAT PEOPLE ARE VOTING ON. He doesn't have a position on issues facing Illiniois, like O'Hare expansion. This guy is a joke and a nutcase. He is out of his league.

There is no way Obama can debate Keyes and win so I don't blame him for backing down. Obama is ahead now and to keep it that way he should stay out of debating Keyes.

Keyes is one of the smartest individuals in politics and very articulate.

He is articulate, not sure how you define "smart", but he's also one of the nuttiest, most out-of-the-mainstream politicians ever. Illinois is a moderate state. Maybe his shit might play in Oklahoma or something, but he's in the wrong state for his garbage.

I getcha x,

Your kind of liberalism the system where we ALL get alloted 2 acres and a goat to live off of. I suppose you'll deem yourself the Queen bee in that system. No thank you, although raw goats milk is the only way to go.

There is no mention in my post about 'my' kind of liberalism, only the observation that the current form practiced is not going to remain as is; it will revert back to its laissez faire roots or it will head in the other direction and become socialist. I don't particularly support either, alhtough if I had to choose I would choose the former.
