I would have expected him to sniff this out sooner. as an infectious disease expert Fauci's "go to" solution will always be things like wear a mask and isolate, keep the elderly at home, and make sure you stay inside if you're low risk but symptomatic

instead he immediately downplayed the virus and told Trump it's not a big deal and don't take any measures to close the borders or ask Americans to wear a mask in public.

that's the exact opposite you would expect from him. he's not an economist so he's never looking at things from that perspective but purely from a mitigation perspective. for him to jump in and say no big deal, don't do anything different should have been an eye opener
