I hate to break it to you, and I can't imagine Texas public schools are very good, but you are taught in history class that the Confederates were fighting over slavery and got their asses tapped by the real Americans. I think it's humorous how you guys think conservative blog sites are what is being taught in the actual world of real education.
You can say whatever you'd like dude. In 1987, Bill Clinton signed a law honoring the Confederacy in Arkansas. The buttons were made and now someone in his camp claims the buttons were unauthorized (yeah sure). And, when asked recently about the button what did we get from Hillary's camp? No comment.
How much pride can you possibly derive from being on the wrong side of history and losing? Unless you want to go back to the 1850s and slavery, what are you really celebrating about the flag? Southern pride? How much pride can you have about a time period where the dominant theme was people owning and exploiting other people?
As most of you probably know, a lot of the true atrocities from slavery really don't get broughtup much anymore. Raping a woman infront of her family, beating a man infront of his kids, the barbaric torture if a slave tried to escape, etc
I just really don't see where the source of pride comes from to a normal well adjusted person.

Nah, I have a lot of friends who grewup there. They say the flag pride is overblown and it isn't quite as robust as it seems to outsiders. Also say a lot of the racial tension is overblown until you really get out to the rural/exurb type areas but that is just what i've heard. Although now that I think of it my friends from Georgia/NC and maybe like a SC/Miss/Bama is a little more extreme but I still think it isn't really like that in the city areas.
