I was raised in New England so I guess I'm a "Yankee" like most of the Southerners I have met in my life like to call me. Personally, I think the Stars and Bars is the best looking flag I have ever seen, but more importantly it is just too big a part of American history to just wish or legislate away. My parents were born in Ireland and my father used to educate me about Irish history as it related to the English. I grew to logically hate the Union Jack and would pass a comment(Fuggin Limeys, etc.) whenever I would see it flown or worn by people (rockers I liked usually). I like to think I matured enough to realize that the Union Jack is going nowhere and my opinion is something I just have to deal with. I have even tempered my hate for the British with much respect over the years. I feel like the rest of the country's flag haters need to to just get over it because of the fact that we all live in the USA. States have pride and history that was paid for in blood. Southern pride and history is not going away as it should not be expected to.
