Just days before her July 29th, 2016 death,
Leonard Cohen penned an emotional final letter to Marianne Ihlen, the woman who inspired his songs "So Long, Marianne" and "Bird on the Wire,".

Suzanne's friend Jan Christian Mollestad wrote back to Cohen: "Your letter came when she still could talk and laugh in full consciousness. When we read it aloud, she smiled as only Marianne can.

"She lifted her hand, when you said you
know that you will be so close behind her that if she were to stretch out her hand, that you felt that she would be able to reach yours" . It gave her deep peace of mind that you knew her condition. And your blessing for the journey gave her extra strength,"

"In her last hour I held her hand and hummed 'Bird on a Wire,' while she was breathing so lightly. And when we left he room, after her soul had flown out of the window for new adventures, we kissed her head and whispered your everlasting words:

"So long, Marianne.
"

“It goes like this

The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah.

Saw Leonard Cohen live at the 1967 Newport Folk Festival. First time I ever heard "Suzanne".

How many of you guys recognize any of these names that he shared the stage with that week?

Pete Seeger
Judy Collins
Theodore Bikel
Joan Baez
Muddy Waters
The Chambers Bros
Arlo Guthrie
Buffy St Marie
Janis Ian
Joni Mitchell
Tom Paxton
and many more

Damn. I'll bet more than half those people are dead.

RIP LC

Dagone, that is a LINEUP.

Got one after this, in the next post, that you will know

but no one else will.

If I can find the female part of this.....equation

this will take an extra post.

I see now....suddenly....its gonna take a few posts.

My mind just, flooded.

As it "should be."

this is all Leonard's fault. :):)

This is so exactly what he would do :):)

For Fans of Folk Music, mainly 60's that, this is gonna be fun.

For Fans to be of this, its gonna be amazing.

This will take some days.

A while.

So Be It.

Namaste.

OK, Mimi is in this Video

that was the girl ("the female part, of the equation") I spoke of above

but I wanna see if I can find her (impossible to find) Solo Work (which may have been just one song lol)

Mimi Farina was Joan Baez's Sister and her physical beauty was such that she would cause people to gasp, when she entered a room.

Later in her life it was shown that Her Soul, her Spirit was even more beautiful cuz she helped a lot of people.

This song may not be Great by people's definition of that but Historically, re: 60's Folk Richard & Mimi Farina were important. To some, anyway.

Just using your list there I could make this a 107 page thread.

I have other stuff in mind.

Post any Folk Videos you want Michelangelo, if you feel like posting any and have time to do that.

If for no other reason a lot of people have missed out completely on what was said (The Message), the amazing talent that was around then

and the effects that the music they made have had on later music.

I'm trying to locate Mimi doing "In The Quiet Morning" which was a song that she wrote and Joan did later....if I can't find it I'll just post Joan's version but Mimi's voice and thus version was totally different than her sister's.

I likely won't be able to find Mimi performing that song.

Here they are together though.

At the 2:36 Mark, and after that.

Don't feel any sense at all an "obligation" to post any Folk Videos up in here Michelangelo, just if you feel like that do it.

What a weekend of Football, College and Pro. Dramatically UnGood for me personally, Win-wise but fun nonetheless

Nick Drake was one of the greatest, most brilliant folk singers to ever live, unfortunately he did not fo that for very long.

The 3 songs I'll post are just a tiny part of what he left, most of which he'd written by the time he was just 22 years old.
