Bobby Bowden, the folksy Hall of Fame coach who won more than 350 games and built Florida State into one of college football's great dynasties with two national championships has died. He was 91.
So in the Movie “We are Marshall” when they were trying to put their football program back together schools were reluctant to put Marshall on their schedule. They asked Bobby Bowden then at West Virginia(I didn’t know he coached there till movie) and he was more than happy to help. Was a good movie very emotional of course. Maybe they should make a movie of him some day.Edit:Guess I should mention that there was a plane crash and the whole Marshall team was lost. I was a young man when that happened so editing for the young-ins.
He was a top notch, colorful coach---was a goodwill ambassador for college football---I always liked him, but the Seminoles were the crookedest, most ignorant, dirtiest players around back then...
Used to be friends with a guy that grew up in Tallahassee, he went to school with one of the Bowden young'uns wont say which one....truth is it probably didnt matter..
Anyway he shows me his HS yearbook and this Bowden wrote something to the effect
Hey Sxxx, Best of luck after high school and remember no matter what dont let those n ig gers give you shit"
Imagine someone getting ahold of that yearbook from wayyy back AND it would probably have caused the family tons of grief even today.
