How much is he telling you to play per game?

Also why don't you go to the baseball board here. Don't buy picks from anyone.

What plays did you lose today?

He told me to play to win at least a hundred bucks on a 10* play, and double the amount on a 20* play. In a month, he's been like .500 in his 20* plays. It's really ridiculous.

Today, the plays were Cincinnati and the Chi Sox. They both lost by a run in late innings... So frustrating! It's been happening all month now... I remember betting like 200 bucks on a game between the Marlins and the Nats like 2 weeks ago... I bet for the Marlins, who actually had a 6-run lead and completely blew it and the Nats eventually won...

Anyways... What exactly is a parlay, and how come you call them a sucker's bet?

A parlay (otherwise known as an accumulator) is the selection of 2 or more teams (up to 12 for mainstream US sports) in no particular order in a single wager. All selections must win for the parlay to win; if there is a tie or no action the parlay reverts to the next lowest number for pay-off, for example: if you select 4 teams and one of those ties, it becomes a 3 team parlay. A tie and win on 2 team parlay becomes a straight bet (paying at 90% of the wager).

Anyway don't bet with that guy anymore. Is he a personal friend or did you buy his picks online?

I've only paid for picks twice and lost both those times. You should visit the baseball board in this forum and tail someone there if you want.

And the reason parlays are sucker's bets is because they are very difficult to win.

Example if you put the following teams:

08/17/09 Brewers (Milwaukee) -130
19:05 ET
08/17/09 Dodgers (LA) +140
22:10 ET
08/17/09 Diamondbacks (Arizona) +150
16:05 ET

Your Total Bet:
100.00
Total Potential Win:
961.54

It pays more than betting individually but the odds are against you.

No he's not, I just bought the picks from him online... Actually I bought his whole MLB season picks...

I'll check the baseball boards, thanks! But would you suggest parlays or straight bets to try to build my bankroll back?

I would suggest betting individually. I actually would have more money if I bet individually. Even tonight I parlayed Philly with the over and lost because the over did not happen.

Make sure to check the baseball boards for a lot of info. A lot of good people there who win on a regular basis.

Anyway, don't give up. How much money do you have left if I may ask? Even if you have $100 that is enough to make up for your losses.

I have something around 260 bucks left in my betting account... So how much should I lay on a single game to possibly get my money up?

If you want to make money don't follow the touts. They are 50/50 at best. There are some people giving out good free picks on this forum and on covers. If you do follow the touts from the Service Plays area watch how many times the Games of the Year lose. I make good money fading those games.

I thought exchanges like Matchbook had no limits?

At Matchbook you only have the limitation of whatever the other people are posting as plays. If you choose to post your own play then you have to get matched. Which may or may not happen.

Well that sucks. I can see a game where the whole public in one one team and nobody wanting to match you.

Limit in Matchbook = Liquidty

But I don't keep all my cash in MB. You know what they say never put all your eggs in same basket. In addition, they dont have enough soccer action either..

In addition,

Don't make any withdrawal before reaching 30k. When you hit 30k, keep some of your cash in bank.

Sorry, just saw your post :)

My strategy is simple. Be selective and dont try to cap all games on the board. I play max 1-2 plays/day. Also chasing good home teams when playing at home against weak road teams..great way to make money. How many times will Red Sox get swept at home against lowly orioles or royals? every 20 year maybe..

Sometimes, I chase over/under in series as well. For ex, both Baltmore and Angels are hot hitting teams and they dont have decent bullpen. Not surprisingly, Over cashed in these series..

I dont have habit to posts picks regularly, sorry for that. I hope you'll understand me about it. I dont like to effect people. You know sometimes people are placing LARGE money on your picks. I remember a guy placed his salary on one of my bets and my bet was lost..

Lets have a look at upcoming schedule..

I'll bet on White Sox (Friday) against Baltimore at home.
I may bet on Dodgers at home against Cubs if they lost first game. (never chase 4-games)
Definetely, I will bet on Twins against Baltimore (24 mon)
Bets for 25 Aug Tuesday: stl, chc, atl.
28 Fri: STL.
31 Aug Mon: LA Dodgers

Sometimes I'm making straight wagers as well (not chase). For ex, I really liked Blue Jays ML -152 at home tonight. Also Phi-Ari Under 3.5 in first half looks good. I picked these two for tonight. GL!

The guy you paid to make picks for you might be making a good living at it. Remeber, he has none of the risk and all of the reward

Every dollar one guy loses at this, is a dollar someone else is earning. And lots of guys are losing lots of dollars, so there is a lot of opportunity to win. Like most things, it comes down to how hard and smart you work combined with some luck

Thanks for the explanation and GL with these wagers. I will cap these games myself, and if I like them I will bet them. Never follow anyone blindly.

That's the way to go my friend. I went 0-2 yesterday (thats why i dont like to post in forums LoL maybe im a little bit superstitious) and the hardest part is to keep cool after a loss. Its very important to face losing.

Majority of betting public becomes crazy after a loss. However, losing is just a part of the game. You should have a good bankroll to stay long enough in the game so even after a 0-8, you can carry on. Losing streaks happen, winning streaks happen as well. Patience is very important. The hardest part of this thing is to welcome losing in my opinion.

This season my worst losing streak was 4 days. The funny thing is I was on a 12-days winning streak but you know "law of averages" :)

Gamblers lose no matter if they win or lose. They lose if they win because they feel themselves "unbeatable". They raise their stakes because their confidence is getting up.

When they lose, they try to recover the loss. They chase their loses. This is simply recipe to disaster..

See you Friday ;)

Betting Advantage.com

Here is someone from PEI who does it and uses Betfair to trade US Sports and Golf.

www.thebettingadvantage.com

Check him out.

Is it actually possible that some people are making a living out of sports betting? I've heard about it, but I'm very skeptic. Is there anyone actually on these boards who actually makes a living out of sports betting? If so, how do you manage to do so?

Thanks

That looks interesting... So you basically choose the odds for the games you want and you bet against someone else?

Life is unfair but you can bet fair..

Betfair is a great thing to have. I'm using BF specially for soccer, nba and tennis. In betfair, it's you who is offering the odds. So you can lay bets instead of backing.

I love to lay 1.05 - 1.10 odds :)
