No. Maybe your cooling fan eventually but even that is unlikely for the lifespan of an average computer.

Are you saying to leave the PC on all the time? What is the benefit in leaving it on?

Well just saying that it doesn't hurt much to leave it on.

I leave mine on because I don't want to wait around for it to boot up every time I need to do something. Mine's been on for about 6 months now.

I would have to say leave it on.. I also don't use a screen saver, it zaps the life of your monitor(by turning it off and on so many times) rather then saving or helping anything.

How much energy do these machines use when sitting idle..what about the waste of Energy...I keep mine on if I am home all day...But If I do turn it off overnite aswell as if I am leaving the house all day for work or something like that....

My EX, who was a computor guru, told me you are probably better leaving it on.

Having said that, I turn mine off about every 3-4 days or so........more during Lightning storms.

Note: My bank tells me to turn off the computer if you have broadband internet access. Otherwise you're never off the internet. Hackers can infiltrate your computer that much easier. Thats my bank talking. Take it FWIW.

Leaving on your computer is better for its life span, as turning it on and off all the time gives the computer a dangerous current shock. Similar to the fact that light bulbs always blow when you just turn them on. Same thing with computers, though energy wise it is a different story.

The stress on the drive heads increases with each start up. It's healthy to re-boot the system on a 5 day or so cycle from what support explained to us.

think about this. The people who invented the PC allready thought about that, and thats why you can. the most that will happen is that it will slow down a bit, but all u haf to do is shoot it down for about 15min, and your good ! but nothing serious will happen !

OMT, Standby is basicly the same thing as turning it off when your talking about preserving the life of your PC/monitor because the power surge is still there over and over...
