U.S. Suffers Casualties in Iraq Battle

AN NASIRIYAH, Iraq - The fiercest fighting yet in the battle for Iraq (news - web sites) flared Sunday near this city on the Euphrates River. Firefights went on for hours, and dozens of Americans were killed, wounded or taken prisoner.

 

A tuff day for the coalition. A Friendly fire accident involving an English fighter with a Patriot missle. A Helicopter accident in Afganistan, the disgruntled American soldier hand grenade incident, the Lost maintenance patrol that was caprtured with several murdered and broadcast by Arab world TV. On top of normal, but unfortunate combat casulties. All of this happening in real time as the day went by made for a depressing day, especially for the families of the brave men and women serving in the Iqaqi theatre.

I don't think the AP stuff is accounted for in the 25 coalition confirmed death toll.

The actual toll is anybodys guess. My point is the whole last 24 hour period has been tragic.

The number is still under the barroom fire in R.I. in febuary though.
